Description
G. W. MlLLER BURNE R Filed June 22. 1923 INVEN-I'DR WITNESS:
Patented Nov. 11, 1924-.
GEORGE W. MILLER, OF WAYNESVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA.
Application filed June 22, 1923. Serial No. 647,186.
BURNER.
To all whom. it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnonen W. MILLER,
United a citizen of the States, residing at WVaynesville, in the county of Haywood and State of North Carolina,
have invented new and useful Improvements in Burners, of
which the following is a This invention relates the general object of specification. to a lamp burner,
the invention being to provide means whereby the chimney part of the burner can be lifted ing part so that the w off the wick carryick can be lighted without removing the chimney.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts. to be hereinafter fully described, il-
lustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed claim.
out in the appended I In describing my invention in detall, reference will be had to drawings wherein like the accompanying characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in wh1ch:
Figure 1 IS a View of a lamp showing my invention in use.
Figure 2 is an enlarge imthe two parts igure 3 is a sectional one of the guiding Figure 4 is a ing part.
Figure 5 is a plan vi carrying part.
Figure 6 is a engaging part.
d detail view showof the burner separated.
detail view through means. plan view of the wick carryew of the chimney perspective view of a finger.
In these views 1 indicates the wick carry ing part of the burner carrying part. pair ranged rods 3 are carri 4 formed on the part 1 5 are formed on the part 2 said rods. Thus the part 2 ranged on the rods. ried by s e s and 2 the chimney of oppositely ar ed by the brackets and tubular guides for receiving is slidably ar- The guides are carears 6 on the part 2 and finger enparts 7 have horizontal portions which are provided with grooves 8 which engage the ears so that the finger parts are slidably connected with t he ears. Said hori- "rods so that the zontal parts are also provided with elongated openings 9 which receive the tubular guides. A spring 10 is carried by the part 2 at the inner side thereof and the ends of the spring engage pins 7 formed in the horizontal portions of the finger engaging parts. This spring tends to hold the finger engaging parts in the outer positions with the horizontal portions pressing against the part2 is frictionally held against movement on the rods. When it is desired to move the part 2 the finger parts are pressed inwardly so as to remove the friction and thus permit the part 2 to be adjusted on the rods. Thus the part 2 and the lamp chimney can be easily and quickly raised to permit the wick to be raised and then lowered. In this way it is not necessary to remove the chimney.
I prefer to make the chimney holding arms 11 with spring parts 12 to hold the chimney in place by spring pressure so that there is but little danger of the chimney being accidentally knocked off the lamp.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is A lamp burner of the class described comprising a wick carrying part and a chimney carrying part. rods carried by the wick. carrying part, ears on the chimney carry ing part, tubular guides depending from the ears and through which the rods pass, an angle-shaped finger engaging part slidably mounted on each ear by having guides formed on its horizontal part engaging the ear, said horizontal part having an elongated opening therein for receiving the tubular guide and a spring having its ends engaging portions of the finger engaging parts for frictionally holding them against the tubular guides.
In testimony whereof I afiix my sigpature.
GEORGE W. L ER.
