Description

C. H. MULLICAN.
LAMP BURNER.
APPLICATION FILED JAN. 2'. 1-920.
1,383,964 Patented July 5, 1921.
INVENTOR ieziie'an ATTORNEY FATE CHARLES H. MULLICAN, OF MACY, INDIANA.
LAMP-BURNER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 5, 1921.
Application filed January 2, 1920. Serial No. 348,783.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES H. MULLICAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Macy, in the county of Miami and State of Indiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Lamp-Burners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to lamp burners and the object is to provide certain means of novel construction for securing a chimney to the burner in order to prevent the accidental displacement thereof.
A further object is to provide, in connection with a plurality of spring fingers permanently mounted and having engagement with the inner side of the lower portion of the chimney, an additional finger having hinged connection with the base of the burner and adapted for movement to permit the chimney to be placed in position, and formed with an engaging device for retaining the finger in positive engagement with the chimney after the latter'has been'pressed down on the base.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of elements hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a bottom plan View of the device, Fig. 2 is an elevation, with a portion of the chimney in vertical section, and Fig. 3 is a view of the burner in vertical section.
The lower or base portion of the burner is designated 10, the dome is shown at 12, and the hinge and fastening device for the dome are illustrated respectively at 14 and 15. The wick tube 16 is of usual construction and the lower portion thereof passes through a neck portion shown at 17 adapted to engage the neck portion of the oil receptacle of the lamp.
The chimney is designated 20 and is engaged on the inner side of the lower portion thereof by a plurality of spring fingers 21 permanently mounted on the base, and if desired these fingers may be secured by means of rivets or the like 22 passing through the radially extending arms 23 which serve to secure the neck portion to the base. I have shown three of these radially extending arms, two of which are secured to the permanently mounted spring fingers 21.
A third spring finger for engaging the lower portion of the chimney is designated 24 and is provided near its lower end with a laterally ofltset member 25 which is pivotally mounted at 26 within a slot 27 formed.
in the base 10. The finger 24: is released for permitting the chimney to be applied to the burner and the lower outwardly extending member 26 carried by the finger is then pressed inwardly for causing the V-shaped portion 28 on the finger to engage the edge of the base, after the manner of a spring clip, thereby securing the finger in position and serving to retain the chimney against accidental displacement. The slot 27 in the base within which the spring finger is pivotally mounted serves also to receive the fastening device for the dome, shown at 15.
hat is claimed is:
In a lamp burner, a base portion, a plurality of permanently mounted spring fingers carried thereby, a dome hinged on the base, a pivotally mounted spring finger cooperating with the fingers first named and movable on a horizontal "axis toward and away from the dome, for resiliently engaging the inner surface of the chimney, and retaining means movable radially of the base, formed on the pivoted finger, and proportioned to positively engage the edge of the base, said retaining means constituting a spring clip.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
CHARLES H. MULLIOAN.
