S. 'KRUSZYNSKI FLAME EXTINGUISHER FOR LAMP BURNEHS Filed March 24. 1923 GianZe Frasz 'nsiza' WITNESSES ATTORNEY Patented Mar. 25, W24.
ltllhlliil-FED FLAME EXTINGUISHEE FOR LAIETP BURNERS.
Application for March 24, 1923. serial No. 627,531.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STANLEY KnUsz'rNsxI, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Flame Ere tinguishers for Lamp Burners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a flame extinguishing device for lamps, the general object of the invention being to provide means for ope ating the extinguishing device from the wick controlling means.
Another object of the invention is to so arrange the parts that the wick will be low cred and the extinguisher moved to opera tive position by the one movement of the operating device.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a side view of a lamp burner showing the invention thereon.
Figure 2 is a section on line 2-2 of Fig. ure 1.
Figure 3 is a similar view with the parts in raised posit-ion.
Figures land 5 are detail views.
In these views 1 indicates the burner of a lamp which is constructed in the usual or any desired manner. t is formed with the wick controlling rod 2 which has one or more toothed wheels thereon for engaging the wick for moving it in the wick tube. In carrying out my invention 1 place a sleeve 3 on the top part of the wick tube and this sleeve carries the projections 4: which form pivots for the depending ends of the extinguishing device 5. This device is of substantially U-shape and when raised it will extend over the upper end of the wick tube and thus extinguish the flame. A sleeve 6 is rotatably mounted on the rod 2 and this sleeve carries an arm 7 which is connected with one of the depending ends of the de vice 5 by a link 8. The disc 9 for turning the rod 2 and the outer end of the sleeve is provided with clutch teeth 10 and said disc is slidably mounted on the rod so that the clutch teeth can be placed in engagement or disengaged by moving the disc upon the rod.
It will be seen that when the clutch teeth are in engagement and the disc turned the extinguishing device will be raised above the end of the wick tube and thus extinguish the flame. When the disc is turned in an opposite direction the device will be lowered. It will also be seen that when the disc is turned to turn the sleeve the rod 2 will also be turned so that the wick is lowered when the extinguishing device is raised and vice versa, thus reducing the size of the flame at the same time the extinguisher is raised and raising the wick when the extinguisher is moved to inoperative position so that it can be ignited. When the disc is moved to its outer position it will turn the rod without turning. the sleeve.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is 1. A flame extinguisher for a lamp burner comprising an extinguishing device on the wick tube, means associated with the wick controlling means for operating the device, such means consisting of a sleeve on the rod of the wick controlling device and means connecting the same to the extinguishing device and clutch means for connecting the sleeve with the disc on the rod.
2. A flame extinguisher for a lamp burner comprising an extinguishing device on the wick tube, a sieeve on the rod of the wick controlling means, means connecting the sleeve with the extinguishing device, a disc slidably mounted on the rod but held against rotary movement thereon and clutch means for connecting the disc with the sleeve.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
STANLEY KRUSZYNSKI.
