J. J. SULLIVAN FOLDIliG TROUSERS CHEASER AND STRETCHER Filed Oct. 1, i921 TNVE. N'T. CIR IJJLEULLIVAN Patented Nov. 11, 1924.
JOHN J. SULLIVAN, OF SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS.
FOLDING TROUSERS CREASEB AND STRETCHER.
Application filed October 1, 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that JOHN JSULLIVAN, citizen of the United States of America, residing at 169 Main St, Springfield, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Trousers Creasers and Stretchers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to trousers creasers and streachers and its leading object is to provide an improved folding device for creasing and stretching trousers, which will maintain an upright position when inserted in the leg of a trousers, and when desired may be folded upon itself so" as to be capable of being inserted in a suit case or other small container, such as a steamer or other trunk.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character with a two piece frame, the terminals of which are hingedly connected to each other, so that the body of each section of the frame is continuous, thus permitting more economical manufacture and easier assembling.
lVith the above and other objects in view the invention consists. of certain new and useful constructions, arrangements and com- 30 binations, clearly described in the following specification and fully illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. l is a plan view.
Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of a 5 hinge connection, showing the connected parts in partly folded position.
ig. 3 is a side elevation thereof.
Fig. 4 is a detail plan view of the central portion of the upper frame section with the name plate removed.
Fig. 5 is a detail plan view showing the slidable coupling in its locked position.
Fig. 6 is a transverse sectional View thereof.
Referring to the accompanying drawings illustrating the practical embodiment of my invention 5 designates the lower frame section and 6 the upper frame section, each of which is substantially W-shaped, thus having a central V-shaped portion or spring 7 and forming bars 8 and 9. The entire frame is made of wire having a beveled edge 10, and the forming bars comprising the divided sides of the frame carry this beveled edge on their outer sides, so as to present to the Serial No. 594,796.
leg of the garment a narrow crease forming surface. A name plate 11 is folded over the central portion of the V-shaped spring 7 of the upper frame.
The terminals of each frame section are located on opposite sides of the center of the frame. The terminals 5 and 5 of the side forming bars 8 and 9 of the lower frame section are disposed in abutting re lation to the terminals 6 and 6 of the side bars 8 and 9 of the upper frame 6, when the frame is in extended position, as shown in Fig. 1.
The two frame sections are held together by means of hinges 12 and 13. The hinge 7 12 is formed of two hinge members 12 and 12*, the former being welded or otherwise secured to the terminal 5 of the side bar 8 and the latter being welded or otherwise secured to the terminal 6 of the side bar 8.
The hinge members 12 and 12 are pivotally connected to each other by means ofthe pintle 12, extended through the hinge eyes 12 and 12 of the members 12 and 12", respectively.
Each hinge is so designed that it will have a limited movement in the opening direction, and. for this purpose the hinge members 12 and 12 are formed with shoulders or stops 12 and 12 respectively, which are adapted to abut against each when the frame sections are opened to the extended working or creasing position, as shownin Fig. 1.
The hinge members 12 and 12 are connected to the parts of the side bar 8 so that the pintle 12 will be in registration with the joint formed by the abutting ends 5 and 6Tof the side bar 8, a-ndqthe flat end surfaces of the terminals 5 and 6 will provide shoulders or stops to limit the movement of the connected parts in an opening direction.
Each hinge member is secured to the inner side of its forming bar, so that the upper frame 6 will fold directly over the lower frame 5, with the beveled edges of the forming bars 8 and 9 maintained in the outer positions. The eyes of the hinge members are preferably formed so as to be non-eXpansible, thus insuring that the two frame sections will not wobble on each other and will maintain a correct alignment. The ends of the pintles are headed to retain their positions. The hinge 13 is constructed in du-
