Description

Nov. 11, 1924.
W. J. H. PAGE ADVERTISING DEVICE Filed Nov. 15,
SEMENT ADVERTISEMENT ADVERT'SEMENT Patented Nov. 11, 1924.
UNHTED STATES isneee PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM J". RAGE, OF RICHMOND, VIRGINIA.
nnvnn'rrsme nEvIc-E.
Application filed November 15, 1923. Serial No. 674,945.
T 0 all whom a may concern:
Be it known that WVILLIAM J. H. PAGE, citizen of the United States, residing at Richmond, in the county of Henricoand State of Virginia, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Advertising Devices; and he does hereby declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact descrip tion of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to an advertising device which will be preferably positioned in a conspicuous place on a desk or counter in a hotel or other public place, whereby railroad schedules or other suitable data may be viewed, and said device being further provided with a plurality of advertising spaces which may be'rented to persons desiring toadvertise in this manner.
An object of the invention is to provide an advertising device which will be placed in a conspicuous. position in a. hotel lobby or other public place, said device being provided with a window through its body portion, and a plurality of radially extending arms or brackets adapted to carry railroad schedules for surrounding cities, or other suitable data, said arms being rotatably mounted so that the desired schedule may be turned until it is in line with the window so that the same may be viewed.
Other objects will appear as the description proceeds.
In the accompanying drawings which form a part of my application.
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of my improved advertising device,
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1,
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1,
Fig. 4c is a detailed view of the rotating disc showing several advertising slips in position thereon, and
Fig. 5 is a front elevation of the base and main standard of the device.
Like characters of reference are used throughout the following specification and the accompanying drawings to designate corresponding parts.
My device comprises a base 1 and a. main standard 2 attached thereto by the bolts 3. A bracing standard 4 is positioned behind said main standard and in spaced relation therewith and is. held to the base 1 of the device by means of the same bolts 3.
The main standard 2 terminates in a cylindrical disc or dial 5, which supports a plate glass disc 6., on which are printed or on otherwise positioned suitable advertising spaces 7 and-a window 8. The plate glass disc 6 is attached to the disc 5 by means of suitable bolts 9.
The o-ppositesides of the main standard 2 are provided with the channels 10 which removably support a piece of plate glass 11 on which suitable advertising matter may be inscribed.
A plate glass disc 12 is also positioned on To top of the base 1 and in contact therewith, and is held thereon by means of the pre viously mentioned bolts 3. This disc of glass is also divided intoone or more spaces upon which advertising may be inscribed.
A radial slot 13 is formed in the upper edge of the disc 5- and is aligned with the window 8 in the plate glass disc 6.
A stub shaft la is supported at the rear of and in the center of the disc 5 and has an outer or rear bearing through the upper end of the bracing standard 4 and is held therein by means of the nut 15.
A rotating disc 16 is rotatably mounted about the shaft 14 and is provided with a plurality of radially extending arms or brackets 17 which are provided with suitable inwardly turned tabs 18, which are adapted to impinge on suitable strips 19 on which may be printed railroad schedules of the adjacent cities or other desired data.- The tabs 20 are struck up from the disc 16 and are adapted to impinge on and engage the inner ends of the data strips 19, so that the same may be securely held in position.
A coil spring 21 is adapted to be positioned about the shaft 14: and serves to tension the disc 16, so that the same will readily rotate, but will not spin. This nut 15 may be adjusted to regulate the desired tension on the spring 21.
The advertising spaces on the several plates of glass will readily be rented out to persons desiring this form of advertising, since an advertising device will be placed in every hotel lobby and other conspicuous location.
From the foregoing description it will be apparent that if a person desires to ascertain the schedule of trains to a nearby city, 110
it is only necessary to rotate the arms 17 until the name of the city and schedule of trains is in registry with the window in the device, whereupon the desired data may be quickly and easily obtained.
It will be apparent that when a person is inspecting the train schedules or other data 011 the strips 19 that his attention will be attracted also to the advertisements on the advertising spaces thereby efficiently advertising the goods, etc. of the persons renting the said spaces.
- It will be understood that while I have specifically described my improved form of advertising device that I do not intend to limit myself to the specific form as set forth, as many minor changes in detail of descriptionmay be resorted to without departure from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. An advertising device comprising a base, a standard supported thereon, a. disc formed at the outer end of said standard, said base, standard and disc being provided with spaces for advertising matter, said disc being provided with a window, and a rotary disc provided with a plurality of radially extending arms mounted adjacent said disc, said arms being adapted to receive suitable data and to selectively register with said window.
2. An advertising device comprising-a base, an advertising disc mounted thereon, a main standard supported on said disc provided with means at its inner end for receiving an advertisement plate, a disc formed at the outer end of said standard, an advertising disc carried thereby, said disc and standard being provided with an aligned opening, a stub shaft carried by said disc mounted on the outer end of said standard, a rotatably mounted disc positioned on said stub shaft, the same being provided with a. plurality of radially extending arms, means on said arms for supporting a plurality of information strips, and means for selectively aligning said information strips with said openings, whereby .any of said data. may be selectively viewed.
8. The combination as set forth in claim 2 and means for adjusta-bly tensioning said rotating. disc. I
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
WILLIAM J. H. PAGE.
