UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFICE.
WILLIAM S. MCDONALD, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
DISPLAY-STAND.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 489,027, dated January 3, 1893. Application filed May 29, 1891. Serial No. 394,610. (No model.)
T0 at whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM S. MCDONALD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Advertising Devices,
of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide an advervising device wherein a number of disks,-
cards or plates having appropriate inscriptions orfadvertising matter may be suitably exhibited in such manner as to attract attention.
To this end, I provide a stationary disk and a revolving disk, to which are attached a number of smaller disks, eccentrically pivoted, so as always to maintain an upright position,to properly exhibit the inscriptions or other matter which they contain.
In the accompanying drawings-Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of my improved advertising device; Fig. 2 is a vertical, longitudinal, central section thereof, and Fig. 3 is a detail view of one of the advertising disks.
The frame A is suitably constructed to support the other parts of the device. It carries between its upper and lower ends a shaft B, to the outer end of which is secured a disk, plate or card D, which may bear any suitable inscription or design. A sleeve E, surrounding the shaft B, is adapted-to rotate thereon.
This sleeve carries a cog-wheel H, meshingwith a pinion I, on a shaft J, to which motion may be imparted from any suitable motor. A disk, card, or plate 0, somewhat larger than the disk D, is secured to the sleeve and rotates therewith. The disks 0 and D are held apart by sleeves and washers a, as indicated.
I arrange on the disk 0, near its outer edge, a series of disks, plates or cards F, hung on pivot-pins G. The disks may bear any suitable inscription, design or other advertising matter, and are arranged to be carried around by the disk 0, when it rotates. The disks F, do not rotate about their pivots G, but always maintain an upright position, onlyturning on their pivots a suflicient amount to maintain this upright position. In order to insure that the disks F shall maintain'a proper position, they are hung eccentrically, as indicated in Fig. 1, and they may be also weighted at f,as indicated in Fig. 3.
The pins G, may be removable, so that the disks F may be replaced by others bearing diiferent kinds of advertising matter.
The disk D remains stationary at all times.
It is obvious that the disks F may be made in any suitable form, their circular shape being preferred. They may be colored in any desired way, or otherwise ornamented to heighten the eflect.
. I claim as my invention- The combination of the frame A, the shaft B, secured thereto, the disk D rigidly secured to the outer end of the shaft, the disk 0, a sleeve E, surrounding the shaft B, to which the disk 0, is secured, washers on the shaft interposed between the disks 0 and D, a series of eccentrically pivoted disks F, carried by the disk E, and means for revolving the disk 0.
In testimony whereof I have signed m'y name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses, on this 18th day of May, A. D. 1891. 4
WILLIAM S. MCDONALD.
