Be it known that Cnrrnonn E." Barnier, citizen of the United States, *residing at Cromwelln in the county of Middlesex and State of Connecticut, has invented certain new and useful improvements in Tiiilhceled Toys, of which the' following is a specification.

This invention reiates to wheeled toys. among the objects of the invention being the provision of an article of this character which is simple in construction and by which energy can be effectively created therein; for iinpelling the toy over a floor or other support.

ln the drawing accompanyingand forining part of the present specification, I have shown .in detail a form of embodiment of the invention which to enable those skilled in the art to practice the saine will be set forth fully in the following description. Clearly l am not restricted to such disclosure. I may depart therefrom in number of particulars within the scope of the invention defined by the claims following said description.

Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a toy involving the invention.

Fig. 2 is an elevation as seen from the left in Fig. 1.

Fig. 3 is a cross section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1, looking toward the right.

The toy involves in its construction a body portion which is desirably though not essentially wheeled, and which can be made to represent any object or objects. s shown. the body appearing is denoted in a general way by 2 and it comprises what is intended to simulate or represent a cart 3 in the shafts of which is a dog or other animal fi, the cart being occupied by a clown or other figure 5. These portions of the body 2, that is, the cart 3, the animal el., and the clown 5 are generally made in one piece from flat stock and can be of metal, wood or composition as desired.

As shown, the cart 3 is equipped at the rear of its vertical center with two transversely aligned bearings 6 through which extends the axle 7, furnished with ground wheels 8. These wheels or equivalents when present, are intended to support the toy on parts the 'Hoor or other surfaceon which is generally mounted' the fore portion of the animal d.

T he body 2 has as shown therein the slot 9 of virtually inverted T-forin, this slotas illustrate-il being formed in the cart portion 2l practically centrally of thelength thereof. rit one side of the stem or upper portion of the slot 9 and on one side of thecart port-ion 3, is a. lateral bearing or lug 10. Below the central portion of the transverse part of the slot 9 and on the opposite side of the cart 3 is a practically similar bearing 11, these bearings rotatively receiving the spindle 12 which stands diagonally or at angle to the vertical and lies in the slot 9.

rihat part of the spindle 12 which extends below the bearing 11 is furnished with a foot as 13 practically in the form of a flat disk7 which stands at a slight angle and the peripheral portion thereof engages the floor pon which the toy is intended to travel. The spindle 12 near the upper end thereof has through it a perforation or hole 1/1 which is intended to receive the free end of a proper length of cord or string. The spindle 12 has fixed to it a wheel 13 which stands at an angle to the horizontal.

The action is as follows:

A piece of cord or string will be passed through the hole 14 and the cord will then be tightly wound upon the spindle 12 be tween the wheel 8 and the upper bearing 107 the toy usually being held free from the floor or other support while vthis is done. W hen the cord is pulled at its outer end, the spindle 12 and weighted wheel 13 rapidly rotated so that when the toy is placed upon the floor, the disk or foot 13 by rotating against the floor will propel the toy along the Hoor.

To facilitate the movement of the toy along the floor or efniivalent7 it may be equipped with a wheel fi on the fore leg of the animal 4 or like parte. l may also face the disk or wheel 13 with rubber or leather 13 which also facilitates the action.

That l claim is:

1. A toy comprising a body portion having` aslot,the body portion being furnished with bearings on opposite sides thereof, a spindle standing at an upright angle through said slot and rotatively supported by the bearings. the spindle having a weighted wheel rigid therewith and also having a cord reoeiving opening between the weighted wheel and the upper portion of the slot, the lower end of the spindle being furnished with a disk that is adapted to rest on the support for the toy.

2. A toy comprising a body portion having a slot, a spindle standing at an angle through said slot, the body portion being provided with means to rotatively support the spindle, the latter having a weighted wheel rigid therewith, and also having means by which a oord can be wound thereon, the lower end of the spindle being' furnished with a disk that is adapted to rest di rectly upon the support for the toy.
