UNITEDv STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM T. BLOUNT, OF ORRVILLE, OHO, .ASSIGNOR 01.7' ONE-HALF TO WILLIAM G. BARNW'ELL, OF SAVANNAH, GEORGIA..
SAW' OILER.
Application filed November To all whom t lmay concern.'
Be it known that lr., WILLIAM T. BLOUNT, a citizen of the vUnited States, residing at Orrville, in the county of Wayne andState of Ohio, have invented new and useful 11nproveinents in Saw Oilers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to saw handles and has for an object the provision of a handle which includes a lubricant container for the purpose of supplying lubricant to the saw blade and means whereby the flow of lubricant may be conveniently controlled.
With the above and other' objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended cla-im.
In the drawings Figure 1 is an elevation showing a portion of a saw blade with the handle applied.
Figure 2 is a similar View showing the handle in section.
Figure 3 is a section taken longitudinally of the lubricant passage.
Figure et is a similar View taken trans- Yersely of said passage and centrally `of the lubricant discharge port.
Referring in detail to the drawings, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character' 10 indicates generally the handle, which includes a grip 11, while a portion of the blade to which the handle is attached is indicated at 12.
In addition to the grip 11, the handle includes an extension 13 and an arm 14e, both of which are slotted as shown at 15 for the reception of the inner end of the blade 12, screws or bolts 1G passing through the extension 13 and arni 14 and through the saw blade, whereby the blade and handle may be connected.
The grip 11 is longitudinally bored to provide a lubricant receptacle 17 which has its upper open end closed by a threaded plug or closure 13. The arm 14 which is spaced from and disposed substantially parallel with the grip 11 is also longitudinally bored to provide a passage 19, the lower end of which is in communication with the lower end of the lubricant receptacle 17, as shown at 20. The

upper end of the passage 19 is open, while a laterally disposed discharge port 21 communicates with the passage 19 adjacent its upper open end.
At its point of communication with the discharge port 21, the passage 19 is provided with a valve seat 22, which receives a tapered valve 23 therein, the latter extending through the upper open end of the passage 19 and entering a socket 25 provided in and extending transversely of the extension 13. A spring 26 is seated within the inner end of the socket 25 and bea-rs against the adjacent end of the valve stem and acts to normally hold the valve seated.
Pivotally mounted between ears 27 which are offset from the arm 14 at the upper end of the latter as shown at 28, is a trigger 29, one end of which enters an opening 30 provided in the valve 23, while the opposite end of this trigger enters and is guided in a slot 31 which extends longitudinally of the extension 13.
It will be apparent from the foregoing description and accompanying drawings that the lubricant container may be lled by removing the plug 13 and when it is desired to supply lubricant to the saw blade, the trigger 29 may be operated to actuate the valve 23 so as to open the discharge port, after which the valve will close under the action of the spring 26.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention what is claimed is A saw handle including a hollow handgrasp portion to contain oil, a top portion extending forwardly from said hand-grasp portion and having a longitudinal recess in its underside, a hollow bottoni portion coniinunica-ting with and extending forwardly from the handgrasp portion, and conduit portion extending upwardly from the forward end of said bottom portion and pro* vided near its upper end with an eduction orifice, said outwardly vextending conduit portion being spaced in front of the handgrasp portion to afford an opening for the reception of the thumb and fingers of an opemiten a reeproeaiiory valve sprng-pressed and guided in the top portierA of the handle and disposed and movabe .in said upwardly extending Conduit portion, und a trigger lever fulerumed on said upwardly extending conduit portion and connected to the valve and having its free end guided n said re- Cess in the top portion of the handle, said by the trigger lever may be Conveniently lgger 1Lever extending across the upper or-y d maniprdated through the medium of the n- 7 dex finger of the operator. K
111 testlmony whereof I affix my slgnature.
, WILLMM r. BLOUNT.
