3 Claims.
This invention relates to a fountain comb, the general object of the invention being to provide a comb of this nature which is of simple construction and which can be readily filled and which has simple valve means for'controlling the flow oi fluid from the reservoir to the teeth.
This invention also consists in certainother features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding which:- Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view through the comb.
Figure 2 is a section on the line 2 -4 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is arrelevation of the comb.
In these views the numeral i indicates an elongated tubular part which forms a reservoir 2 for the solution to be dispensed by the comb and one end of the tubular part forms a handle and the end of this handle part is open but is adapted to be closed by a plug 3 which is formed with'an inner threaded part 3' for engaging internal threads in the handle part with the outer part of the plugtapered as shown at 3" .to'engage a tapered outer part of the opening in theend of the handle part. Thus the plug forms a fluidtight junction with the walls of the opening in the handle part when the plug is threaded thereinto. That part of the tubular portion which forms the back of the comb is formed with a depending flange 4 which has a socket 5 in one end and it is also formed with a longitudinally extend ing circular bore 6 which has one end opening into the socket 5 and its other end is provided with a tapered part and then a reduced cylindrical part which passes through the other end of the flange. A pair of elongated slots I is formed in the upper part of the flange and have their upper ends communicating with the reservoir and the slots I communicate with the bore 6 and a longitudinally extending row of holes 8 extend from the lower part of the bore through the lower edge of the flange and between the bases of the teeth 9 which depend from the lower edge of the flange. An elongated valve member iil'of circular shape in cross section is located in the bore and it has parts throughout the several views, and in the longitudinally extending slots II therein which communicate with the slots 1 when the valve member is turned to a certain position and when in this position the fluid in the reservoir will pass through the slots the slots ll in'the 5 valve member and then through.
the holes 8 to reservoir to said holes 8.
One end of the valve member is tapered and the end formed with a short cylindrical part as shown at l3 and a cap it or plug is threaded into 1 for receiving thispart It so that a bearing for the end I3 of the the socket 5 and has a socket in its inner end the cap forms valve member.
with. The other part of the lever II extends upwardly and has a button l9 attached thereto, this part engaging a part of the tubular portion 30 I when the lever is pushed upon gaging the button 59.
by a finger en- This movement of the lever opens the valve member I!) so that fluid can pass from the reservoir onto the teeth of the comb. A spring 20 has a part encircling that 35 portion of the part i6 located in the channel l8- and a part of the spring engages a portion of the tubular part I and another part engages the bottom of the channel, this spring acting to hold the lever in the position shown in Figure 3 with the valve' in closed position. By pressing upon the button it, as before stated, the valve is moved to open position and as soon as pressure is released the spring moves the valve bank to closed position. 'A locking screw 2! passes through a threaded-hole in the lever ill and by threading the screw upwardly against a part of the member i the lever cannot be moved so that it will be impossible to accidentally move the lever to valve opening position. This is desirable when the de- 5 vice is being carried in the pocketbook or the like.
to limit movementv of the lever l, closing position.
Projections 8' on the lever engage the part i 1 beyond valve Itis thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts pro- 'vided that such changes fall within the scope oi the appended'olaims.
