The primary object of this invention is '1 the provision of a device for lubricating the blades of an ax or the like thereby increasingthe depth of out of said ax.
Another object of the invention. 1s the provision of an ax with means for keeping the blades of the ax well oiled, thereby eliminating all possibility of said blades becoming rusty.
Another object of th invention is the provision of an ax comprising means for lubricating the blades of said ax, together with removable weights for changing the weight of the same. i
A. further object is to provide an. ax which is simple in construction, simple of operation and cheap of manufacture. I
With the above and other" objects in view which willappear as the nature of the device is better understood, the same consists in the improved construction and novel arrangement of partsfwhich will hereinafter be more fully described, and pointed out in the claims.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, the reference numeral 10 indicates my improved ax, which in the present instance is shown as a double. blade type but it is to be understood that the sam maybe a single blade ax if desired. The ax 10 comprises the usual eye 11 for the reception of the ax handle (not shown) and blades 12.
The lubricating device consists of an oil reservoir 13 which is formed by drilling a hole in the rear edge of the ax, near the eye 11. Lubricating apertures 14 communicate with the reservoir 13 and open on to the blades 12 as. at 15. The reservoir 13 is threaded to receive the threaded valve 16,

It will be seen that there has been shown a lubricating device whereby the blade of an ax can be oiled for increasing the depth of cut of said blade and will also eliminate the possibility of the ax becoming rusty.
Very often there are times when it is necessary to use a heavy ax, such as are used when cutting the trunk of a tree, and then again, there are times when a light ax is required for cutting branches of trees.
For this reason, I hav shown means 19, which will allow the same ax to be used for both purposes. The said means 17 comprises a threaded bolt 20, adapted to be screwed into a bore 21 between the eye 11, and the reservoir 13. It will be. seen that the weight of the ax may b varied by inserting or removing the bolts 20.
While there has been shown and described one form of the invention, no limitations are necessarily made to'the exact'details of construction but that changes modifications and alterations as come within the claims may be resorted to when so desired.
What is claimed as new is 1. An ax blade having a reservoir and a duct leading from said reservoir to an exposed face of an ax blade. a valvefor regulating the flow through said duct, the said valve being removable and serving as a filler cap whereby lubricant may be supplied to said reservoir. I

3. An ax blade having a reservoir, an orifice leading from the reservoir and opening on to an externally exposed surface of the blade, and a valve screw threadedly accommodated by the reservoir and having means for closing the reservoir from said orifice.
4. An ax blade having areservoir, an ori fice leading'from the reservoir and opening on to an externally exposed surface of the blade, anda valve screw threadedly accommodated by the reservoir and having means for closing the reservoir from said orifice.
5. An ax blade having a reservoir and an orifice leading from the reservoir and opening out on one end upon an external surface of the blade, and rotary means mounted in the reservoir and provided with an extension co-acting with the orifice to respectively cover and uncover the same on adjustment of said means.
6, An ax blade having a reservoir and an orifice leading from the reservoir and opening out on one end above an external surface of the blade, and rotary means mounted in the reservoir and provided with an ex tension co-acting with th orifice to respectively cover and uncover the same on adjustment of said means, means including a thread (Jo-acting with the walls of the reservoir to hold the means in its position of adjustment.
