In accordance with the present invention a die stock' is provided in such a manner that one handle of the die stock serves as a reservoir for the lubricant, while the 'head carrying the dies is provided with passages therethrough so that the oil or other lubricant will discharge upon the dies and upon the work being cut by the die.
The invention together with its objects and advantages will be best understood from a study of the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:-
Figure 1 is a plan view of a die stock embodying the features of the present invention.
Figure 2 is a side elevational view of the die stock. 7
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary detail sectional view through the die stock at the dieholder end thereof.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary sectional view on a vertical plane through the die-holder end of the die stock, and
Figure 5 is a longitudinal sectional view through the handle of the die stock at the end thereof remote from the die holder.
Referring to the drawings more in detail it will be seen that 5 indicates generally the die holder, the same being substantially of conventional construction, embodying as it does a frame 6 provided with a stem or socket l, and arranged within the frame is ahead 8 carrying the dies 9 of the kind used for cutting thread, and. for similar purposes.
The handle for the die stock is indicated by the reference numeral Ill and in the present instance is shown as consisting of an elongated and disposed about the stem l6, and bearing at tubular member that at one end threads into the socket l as at H. At said end the handle membe! it is provided with an integral plug l2 having a passage I3 .therethrough controlled by a spring-seatedball check valve M.
For the outer end of the handle ill there is provided a cap [5 which is apertured to accommodate a stem or rod it of a plunger or piston I! that has a working fit within the handle l0.
Inwardly from the cap-equipped end thereof handle I0 is provided with a partition wall I8 that is apertured to accommodate the stem it,
one end on the partition wall I8 is a coil spring it. The other end of the spring l9 bears against a transverse pin 20 carried by the stem I6 and spring. I!) normally actson the stem to project the handle-equipped end 2! of the stem outwardly as will be clearfrom a study of Figure 5.
Also inwardly from the region of the wall l8 handle ill is provided with a filling neck 22 for which a closure plug 23 is provided. It is obvious that the oil or lubricant is introduced into the handle in through the neck 22. a l
So as to permit the piston H to move away from the head 8 or towards the right in Figure 3, the piston or plunger I! is provided with an oil passage 24 therethrough and for the passage 24 there is provided at the leading side of the piston I! a suitable flexible flap valve 25.
Further in accordance with the present invention, the head'B carrying the dies 9 is provided with a circular series of relatively spaced radial oil ports 25 which during the threading operation successively pass into alignment with passage i3 in the handle H) to permit oil discharging from the handle to pass therethrough for lubricating the dies-9 and'the work during the threading operation.
From the above it will be apparent that in practical operation when rod I 6 is pushed inwardly of the handle I0 plunger ill will act to 'force the oil in advance of said plunger through the passage l3, unseating the valve M and through the successive ports or passages 26. When the end 2| is pulled outwardly with respect to the handle in, the resistance of the lubricant within the handle to the movement of the piston I1 is reduced due to the fact that valve 25 will flex to an open position thus leaving a through or uninterrupted passage 24 for the oil through the piston H, Y

Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new is:
In combination with an annular die holder frame having a die supporting head releasably mounted therein for rotation and provided with a series of radially arranged lubricating ports to carry lubricant to the dies of the head and work engaged by the dies, an internally screw threaded socket formed on the frame, a handle having a plug-like end externally screw threaded and threaded in the socket and provided with a lubricant reservoir extendingfrom the plug-like end through the free end of the handle, a cap detachably secured on the free end of the handle for closing one end 0! the reservoir, said plug-like end of the handle having a lubricant passage leading from said reservoir and adapted to communicate with'the ports of the head during rotation of the latter relative to the frame, a check valve in said passage to prevent lubricant and cap for limiting the sliding movement of the piston. a coil spring on said stem and bearing against the partition and pin and acting to urge the piston towards the partition for charging the portion of the reservoir between said piston and the plugshaped end of the handle with lubricant obtained from the reservoir between said piston and the partition, and said handle remote from said die holder being provided with a filling neck extending at an angle of about 45 from said handle towards the outer end of the handle, so that lubricant may be easily poured therein when said handle is positioned in an upward direction from the work engaged by the die holder, and a closure plug for said filling neck.
