Description

UNITED STATES WILLIAM E. LAUEENcE, oE NEW YEK, N. it. I
PATENT OEEICE.
IMPROVEMENT IN cuRRv-comes.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 150,585, -dated May 5, 1874; application filed March 19, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known th at I, WILLIAM E. LAURENCE, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Curry-Combs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable, those skilled in the art to make and usc the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part ot this speciication, in which draw- 111g- Figure l represents a vertical section in the plane v x, Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a back view of the same. Fig. 3 is a face view of the same. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of one of the combs detached.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
This invention consists in the arrangement of a series of combs which are supported by rods in an open-back frame, each comb being provided with a flange, which bears against thevadjoining comb in such a manner that, when the combs are secured in position, each comb is stitfened by the adjacent liange, and thereby the durability of the implement is materially increased, and at the same time each comb, if it should wear out or become injured, can be removed and replaced by another without disturbing the adjoining combs. With the wire that supports the handle is combined a brace, which allows of adjusting said handle at any desired inclination.
In the drawing, the letter A designates a frame, which is, by preference, made of wire, and provided with rods a a, which support and connect a series of combs, C, which are made 'The rods a pass through holes in the combs andv in their langes b, as seen in Fig. l, and they are secured in position either simply by bending their ends over, as shown in Figs. l and 2, or they may be secured by any other suitable means. The ends of the rods a are bent upwardly to form braces d d, the said ends being passed into the end of the handle B, and secured in position. The combs O arc, by preference, stamped up of sheet metal, and when the same are secured in the frame A they produce a closed back, as shown in Fig. 2. D D are the knockers, which are cast separate, and are riveted to the backs of the combs C, as shown in Fig. 2. On the back of the comb is secured a wire, c, which serves to support the handle B, and the end of said wire being passed into the end of the handle B, where it is secured in place, and thus serves to support said handle in position.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is o A curry-comb consisting of a series of plates, each bent on one side to form the teeth, and on the other side to provide a flange to re-enforce the adjacentplate, and the rods a a passing through the combs and binding all the plates together, substantially as described.
