Description

Aug. 19, 19245 R. FREEDMAN ET AL SHOULDER STRAP CLIP Filed Oct. 13 ,1922
INVENTORS.
A mm m m ed raw 5 Patented Aug. 19, 1924.
RUTH FBEEDMAN AND PHILIP FREEDMAN, OF NEW YORK, N.'Y.
SHOULDER-STRAP our.
Application tiled October 13, 1922. Serial No. 594,311.
To all whom it may boncem:
Be it known that we, RUTH FREEDMAN and PHILIP FREEDMAN, respectively, citizens of the United States, and residents of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoulder-Strap Clips, of which the following is a specification. a
This invention relates to garment fasteners, having reference particularly to an improved shoulder strap clip.
The invention has for its principal object the provision of a device of this character which is adapted for concealed attachment beneath a garment in such manner as to hold an element of an adjacent garment, as the shoulder strap of an under garment, against slipping movement on the shoulder of a wearer, either upwardly or downwardly; a further object being to provide a device of the character'named which is simple in construction, readily attachable and detachable, and which is of durable and inexpensive construction.
In carrying out our invention, we provide a clip comprising two normally open, swingingly connected clamping elements, means for detachably clasping the aws together at their free ends, and means for attaching one of the jaws to the inside of a garment, whereby the other jaws may be passed beneath an element of an adjacent garment to hold said element in non-slippable relation on the first named garment, as hereinafter fully described and specifically set forth in the ap pended claims; v
In the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, Figure 1 1s a perspective view illustrating one example of our improvement, the jaws of the device being opened; I
Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the jaws closed;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view illustrating a sli htly modified construction;
ig. 4 is a picture representation of a person wearing our improved shoulder strap clip; and
ig. 5 is a perspective view illustrating a modification of construction.
In the simplest form of our invention, as illustrated by Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings, 1 denotes the device in general and 2, 3 indicate two normally open clamping jaws, which are connected by means of an integral loop 4, the device being formed from a single strip of resilient material such as celluloid, sheet metal or any other adaptable material.
, The jaw 2 is provided with a plurality of holes 5, whereby said jaws may be sewed to the-underside of a garment. The 'free end of the jaw 2 is provisioned with one member of a coupling device of any adaptable variety, as a snap fastener comprising a socket member 6, secured to said jaw 2, and a ball'member 7 secured to the jaw 8, but we do not confine ourselves to this specific coupling means for holding the jaws in closed relation, as any suitable locking device may be employed.
In the modification of our invention illustrated by Fig. 3 of the drawings, the jaws 2 and 3 are connected by means of a hinge olnt 8, and a safety pin 9 is fixed to one edge of the jaw 2, for the purpose of detachably fastening the device to an outer garment. In Figure 5, we have shown another modification wherein a jaw-element 3 of pliable material, as sheet metal, is shown, said element having a serrated edge 2, which is bent over one end of an elastic aw-element 2, the element 3 being provlded with a loop 5", to which is attached a flexible element 10, of any suitable material adapted to be sewed to a garment. Other variations of detail may be employed without departing from the spirit of our invention,, and we, therefore, reserve the right to employ such variations as ma fall within the scope of the appended c aims.
In the operation and use of the invention, the jaw 2 is fixed to the inside ofa garment, as a, at any arbitrarily selected point adjacent the neck band, and then the jaw 3 is passed beneath the shoulder straps b, and the free ends of the jaws of the device are snapped together and held in locked engagement by means of thelocking or coupling devices.
It is manifest that these shoulder strap clips may be attached to the inner side of the garment at any arbitraril selected location, whereby the straps may be held against either upward or downward slippin movement and maintained entirely concea ed. c
Having thus described-our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
In a shoulder strap clip, two normally open clampingelements, and means for connecting said elements together, means for clasping their free endsin detachable relation, and means for attaching one of said 5 glllements to the underside of a garment s 'oulder, whereby the other element may be passed beneath the shoulder strap of an adjacent garment to hold said strap in nonslippable relation to the shoulder of the first named garment. w 10 Signed at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, this 11th day of September A. D. 192 2.
RUTH FREEDMAN, PHILIP EREEDMAN.
