Pacfkages for Axle Grease.

@@f@ dffwww@ WMM? 677%# UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 JOHN G. BUCKS, 'OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN PACKAGES FCR AXLE-GREASE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 150,472, dated May 5, 1874 application filed February 26, 1874.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, J oHN G. HUo'Ks, of San Francisco city and county, State of California, have invented an Improved Package 5 and I do hereby declare the following description and accompanying drawings are sufficient to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which it most nearly appertains to make and use my said invention or improvement Without further invention or experiment.
My invention relates to that class of cans having the body made of sheet metal, and the top made of wood; and it consists in making the mouth of the can ilaring and the edge of the Wooden top beveled, so the top can be crowded down into the iiaring mouth, iwhere it Will remain. rIhis cover I make with a beveled orda-ring edge, as shown, so that it may be pressed or crowded down into the open top of the can. Uusually the cover will be secured in the top of the can sufficiently tight by simply pressing it in, as the daring edge of the cover Will spread the upper edge of the tin slightly, so as to give a firm hold; but, in case- Vit is desired to fasten it more securely, two or three indentations can be made in the upper edge of the can, so as to drive it into the edge of the cover, and thus secure it.
By this arrangement I render the can much more convenient than formerly, as the cover can be readily removed when it is desired to open the can, so as to leave the entire top of the can open, and allowing the contents to be easily removed.
In the drawing', Figure 1 is a view of the cover. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of the can with its cover.
'Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
'lhe daring-mouthed metal can A, in combination with the bevel-edged top b, as set forth. l
In Witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal.
