DRESS FORM.
Application filed May 5,
To all fao/tom t may concern;
Be it known that I, CHARLES A.' Urronn, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Dorchester, county of Suiiolk, State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Dress Forms, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawing, is a speciication, like characters on the drawing representing like parts.
This invention relates to sectional vdress forms, and it has for one of its objects to provide a novel sectional dress forni which is constructed so as to provide a solid section Vunderneath each arm instead of the usual space or division between the front and back portions of the form. This con-v struction has the Iadvantage that it is much easier to lit a waist or waist lining thereto because of the solid support which is at forded under each arm.
Another object of my invention is to provide a novel sectional dress orm'in which the number of clamping bolts which are necessary for clamping the sections in ad-V justed position is reduced, thus making it easier to adjust the form. Still another object o the invention is to provide a novel and'siinplilied connection between the hip sections and the center supporting tube.
Other o-bjects of the invention are to improve dress forins oit' this type, all as will be more fully hereinafter seti for-th. I
In order 'to give an understanding of my invention, I have illustrated in the drawings a selected embodiment thereof which will now be described, after which the novel features will be pointed out in the appended claims.
In ,the drawings:
Fig. l is a vertical, sectional view through a dress forni embodying my invention;
Fig. 2is a vertical section taken at right angles to Fig. 1 showing the back of the dress form,
Fig. is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2. v
Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 2 show` ing` the iront of the form.
My improved dress form is of that type which comprises a plurality of sections adjustable relative to eachother. It is dvided horizontally at the waist as shown at 1, and the front thereof is also divided horizontally above the bust, as shown at 2. Ihe` back is divided horizontally just below 1921. Serial No. 466,869.
the shoulders, as shown at 3. rIlie form is also divided vertically, and the vertical divisions with the horizontal divisions make up the. Vsections oilA the form.V The form is divided vertically from front to rear atl each side of the center and through each shoulder, as shown by the division lines 4. The. neck portion is: divided into four sections, and the four neck sections, two on Y the front, two on the rear, extend from the neck down to the horizontal division lines 2 and 3. The front neck sections are indicated at 5 and the rear neck sections at The forni is also divided vertically at each side along the two division lines 7 and S, which are situated either side of the arm hole 9, these divisions 7 and 8 preferably extending from the arm hole to the bottom of the form. This manner of dividing the form produces a solid bust section 39 at the front of the form` from the horizontal division line 2 to the waist line, and a similar solid backV section 10 at the back of the form. It also produces two under-arin sections l1 at the sides ofthe form beneath the ar-nr holes, the two side bust sections 40, the two side back sections 2G, and the eight hip sections 13. The dress form, therefore, has the solid sections 11 under each arm hole at the sides of the form, and also the sections 89 and 10 at the front and rear. This is ot advantage in fitting a waist because it gives solid support to the garment directly at the front and rear and underneath each arm. The eight hipsections i3 are all adi justably secured to a foursarmed member 14 which is secured to the central standardV or support l5 in usual manner. This sup` port 1li has the four slotted arms 16. The front and rear sections 13 have horizontally extending plates 17 secured thereto,'which are adjustably clamped to two of the slotted arms 16 by means of clamping bolts 18. The other six hip sections 13 also have horizontally extending plates 19 secured thereto and the three plates 19 extending from the three sections on each side of 'the form have an overlapping relation and are secured to the other arms of the ore-arined member. rlhese thi-ee overlapping plates 19 at each side of the form are so* arrangedV that the centralVv plate is interposed between the two outside plates. The outside plates each have inclined slots 2O therein, the slot 20 of one outside plate of each group having a crossing relation with the slot 2O of the v whenever other outside plate. The central plate of each group of three hasan aperture therein. A clamping bolt 2l extends throughthe crossing slots and through the aperture which Yis in alignment therewith and by means of this arrangement a single clarrip-V tions and under-arm sections are adjustably secured lto the hinged waist sections `12 by means or slottedy clamping members 23, which are iXedly anchored at their upper lends tothe bust and under-arm sections,
land whichv overlie the hinged waist sections. These members 23ers adj'i'istably secured to the waist sections by clamping bolts l2li which extend Vthrough the slots in said meinbers and are anchored in the hinged waist sections. This construction permits the term y to be'lengthene'd vertically.
' act as tie members, and they serve not eiily In @dei to noia' he Waist Sectionsvp'fopeiiy adjusted relative tol eachother to givek any desired waist-line measurement, lhave prof` vided hori'i'zontal slotted members, 25 iizhi'eh are secured tov certain of the hing'gfe'd waist sectionsandoverlie other hinged waist sec-k tions 'and-are adjustahly Secured thereto by the clamping bolts24. These members 25 to iioiathe hinged waist Sections pfop'eriy placedrelative to each other, but they also serve to hold the lower ends ot the bust and under-,arm sections properly placed.- It is "not, therefore, necessary Vto have any tie members directly;connectingthe lower ends of the 'bust and under-arm sections, and thereby Ii am enabled to reduce materially the number of slotted-members and clampbolts which areA necessary to Vhold the dressv form in `any adjusted position. The
A similar construction is used on each side or the form for securing together the central bust section the side bust section 40, thetront" shoulder section 42, and the front neck section 5 when they corner together as seen in Fig". 4.
I claimf A l. dress form divided vertically from trent to rear thr'oufli each shoulder, and havii'igV two vertical divisions extending ron'i each arinh'ole, thereby to such se'tns together'. j
2,. A dressform divided horizontally at the waist, and horizontally above the hust line, and also divided vertically from front to'rea'r through each shoulder, `and divided from si'd'e to side from the neck portion to the armhole, and divided vertically from front to rear from the neck to the upper torni eztehding' from the'V corres ending` arinh'ole" thereby to provide a soli under arm section at each side of the form, in oombination with a standard, a four-armed member secured thereto, each arm of said member heing radially slotted, and anchoring plates secured to each of the vertical sections, the plates of the front and rear sections being' adjustably secured to two opposite arms of the 'four-armed member, and the plates of the three sections on each side of the 'form' overlapping each other and being secured to the other arms ot' said fourarmed member, the outside plates of each group of three being slotted with the slots crossing 'each other and the central late of each group having an aperture in a ign ment with the point where the slots cross, and a clamping bolt extending through the aligned aperture and slots and through the slotA of thecorrespoiiding arm.
In testimony whereof, l have signed my name to this specification.
CHARLES A. UFFORD.
