ADJUSTABLE CAP.
Application filed November 26, 1923. Serial No. 677,053.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Jones Rosnnzwme, citizen of the United States, residing at New York, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ad-' justable Caps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in adjustable caps made of cloth or similar material and it has for its objects among others to provide an improved cap of that general type having provision for ready adjustment so that the one cap can be made to accommodate itself with equal facility when caps of different sizes are required, thereby enabling a dealer in caps to carry a less number of caps and yet be able to accommodate his customers with the required size of cap.
My improved cap embodies a skirt portion upon each side of the front center with ends separated and provided with rows of holes which are preferably in a reinforcing member on the under side of each skirt portion, and a member traversing the space between the said reinforcing members and having at each end a hook engagea'ble in said holes, the ends of the strap being secured to opposite edges of the peak or visor.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter appear, and the novel features thereof will be particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which with the numerals of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, and in which male portions of aseparable orsnap fastenor, of usual type, so disposed that when the front of the crown is drawn down and the fastener members engaged the size-adjusting elements, now to be described, will be concealed from View.
At the front of the crown are the skirt portions 5 and 6, that at the right of Fig. 1 being shown as thrown upward for the purpose of illustration. As seen best in. Fig. 2 the adjacent ends of these skirt por tions are separated, and to the inner face of each thereof there is secured a reinforcing member 7, 8 as seen in Fig, 2, which may be leather or other suitable material provided with a plurality of holes 9, which may be reinforced if desired by means such as eyelets or the like 10 as seen in Fig. 1.
The underside of each of the members '7 and S is preferably provided with a loop 11 through which is guided the ends of a strap 12, preferably of the same material as the cap. This strap 12 after having its ends passed through the loops 1 has such ends fastened to the opposite edges of the visor as by rivetsor the like: 13, see Fig. 2, which rivets also secure in place at the ends of a 15 which are adapted to engage in the holes 9 of the members 7 and 8.
The size of the cap may be readily ad justed by moving the skirt portions in either direction, toward or from each other, and then engaging the hooks in the holes 9. The
skirt portions at all times cover and conceal rated skirt portions independent of the sweat band, reinforcing members secured to the skirt portions and having a series of holes, loops on the underside of said skirt portions, a strap guided at its ends in said loops with its ends fastened to opposite edges/of the visor, and pivoted hooks'on the ends of said strap and engageable in the holes of said reinforcing members.
In testimony whereof I hereunto my signature. 7
