IMPROVEMENT IN MITTENS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 150,226, dated April 28, 1374; application filed December 31, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, SOLOMON J. GLUTE and DANIEL M. DURFEE, of Rockwood, in the county of Fulton and State of New York, have invented anew and Improved Mitten, of which the following is a specification:
The invention relates to the old and wellknown class of one-fingered mittens, and consists in constructing them from a number of pieces, cut with much economy of material, and relatively shaped as hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
Figure 1 is a diagram of amitten constructed according to our improvement. Fig. 2 is a diagram of the palm, and Fig. 3 is a diagram of the back piece.
A is the palm, an d B is the back piece. The palm comprises the piece D, which is the palm of the forefinger, also the piece E, which is the side and back of the front finger and part of the back of the hand, with an extension, F, to take the place of the fourchette of the first finger. The edge of the said extension F is sewed to the edge of the part of E not so extended,- and is sewed to the edge b of part B, joining the palm and back from the junction of the fore and second fingers at the back of the wrist. The part B also has an extension, G, which is to take the place of the fourchette of the forefinger, and is sewed to the edge d of the palm A, along the inside of the second finger, for which a hole is cut in the palm, as at I. H represents the thumb part of the mitten.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination of the palm-piece A, having the parts D E F, and the back piece B, having the extension G, as and for the purpose specified.-
