MANUFACTURING COMPANY, ornmrjimnnronrs, Mmnnsorn, A oox-romrronor MINNESOTA 1 l i Application f led; April 26,
V This invention relates to new and :useful improvements in gloves, particularly; work- -ing mens gloves of the type'having thepalm two middle fingers; a portion shaped to form the backsof the first and'second fingers and 7 another portion forming the backs offthe third and fourthfingers, 'saidbackfinger' portionsbeing suitably stitched to the front finger portions, and the back finger portions having their rear edges curved to correspond to the forward curved edgeportions of said back portion and suitably stitched thereto.
A more specific object is to provide a glove comprising a leather portion adapted to cover the palm of the hand and two of the fingers, a leather portion forming the fronts of the two middle fingers; a cloth portion forming the back of the glove and stitched at its sides to said palm portion, the forward edge of said back portion being curved inwardly v. j from both sides and in a direction towards '35 the fingers and terminating at a point sub stantially at the juncture of the two middle fingers; a leather portion shaped to formthe I backs of the first and second fingers, and another leather portion forming the backs of the third and fourth fingers, said backfinger portions being suitably stitched to the" front finger portions, andthe back finger portions having their rear edges curved to correspond to the curved edgeportions of said back cloth portion and suitably stitched theretor A further object is toprovidea glove constructed in such a manner asto-p'rovide the utmost in wear and, at-the sametime, one which will be comfortable to the user, the back of the glove being constructed of asoft narrow crovn Seria l iio. gl vmv v, v FigureQ isalview showing the shapesof the b k fi g r p r ibnsa he a 'z' handportion, said parts "being shown slightly separated from one another and. f w gFigure 3 is a front view of the completed The, novel glove featured in-this invention comprises afront or' palm porti'on2 adapted to cover fthe palm ,offthe-handand having beenfldisclosed astructure designed to carry integral portions?) 'andet shaped to form the fronts of the first and foiirth fingers, asshown in Figure lilfhethumb 5'is secured to the palmportion 2 inthe'iusual manner. The fronts" of the middle fingers of the glove are formed fromf an integral portion '6 having ,Po t onsT dB hap t m h frontsofithesetw'o fingers, as shown.
A: reamed this invention resides in the a construction o f'the back of the glove, which issu chgas to eprovidepa glove' which-will bfe a very flexible at the knuckles and, at the same time, one which will be strong and durable. As shown in Figures 1 and 8, the back of the glove comprises a back portion 9, preferabl made from a suitable cloth or fabric, and t e finger portions 11 and 12, preferably of leather. The back portion 9 is'suitably stitched at its side edges to the palm portion 2.
The finger portion 11 forms the backs of the first and second fingers and the portion 12 the backs of the third and fourth fingers. The forward edge portions 15 and 16 of the back portion 9 are curved inwardly from both sides and in a direction towards the fingers and terminate in a point 17, situated substantially at the juncture of the two migdle fingers, as clearly shown in Figures 1 an 2.
The back edges 18 and 19 of the finger portions 11 and 12, respectively, are correspondingly curved, and are secured to the edge portions 15 and 16 of the back portion 9 by suitable rows of stitches 21, shown in Figure 1.
B thus constructing the back of the glove, it w1ll be very flexible at the knuckles of the hand so as to permit free movement of the fingers and thus eliminate the stiffness often found in gloves having the back finger portions stitched to the back portion of the glove, a strai ht row of stitches extending across the bac of the glove.
In the drawings, I have shown the glove provided with'a gauntlet 22 suitably stitched to the palm and back portions 2 and 9, respectively, by suitable stitches 23. The gauntlet is preferably constructed of a comparatively stiff material and the front portion' or side thereof is reinforced by means of a member 24, preferably of leather, suitably stitched to the glove, as clearly shown in Figure 3.
By making the backs of the fingers of two separate parts, as best shown in Figure 2, these parts may be made from small pieces of leather which might otherwise have to be scrapped, thereby economizing on material, with a resultant lowering in the cost of manufacture. I
I claim as my invention:
1. A glove including a portion adapted to cover the palm of the hand, portions forming the fronts of the fingers, another portion forming the back of the glove and stitched tions of said back portion and suitably stitched thereto.
2. A glove comprising a front portion of leather adapted to cover the palm of the hand and two of the fingers, a leather portion forming the fronts of the two middle fingers, a cloth portion forming the back of the glove and stitched at its sides to said front portion,
the front edge of said back portion being curved inwardly and forwardly from both sides'and terminating in a point situated substantially between the two middle fingers, a portion shaped to form the backs of the first and second fingers and another portion forming the backs of the third and fourth fingers, said back finger portions being of leather and suitably stitched to said front finger portions, and said back finger portions having their rear edges shaped to correspond to the curved edge portions of said back portion and suitably stitched thereto.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this 19th day of April, 1930.
WILLIAM O. WELLS.
