TES
PATENT MORRIS w; WICKHAM, or BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
NURSING-BOTTLE HOLDER.
Application filed November 14, 1921.
New York, have invented new anduseful Improvements in Nursing-Bottle Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a nursing bottle holder and strap which is applicable to baby carriages, buggies, bassinettes, cribs, &c.
Its object is to provide a simple and inexpensive device of this character which can be readily applied to and removed from baby carriages and the like, and which can be swung out of the way when not in use, and which, when in use, reliably holds the bottle in place.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective View of the improvement. Figure 2 is an enlarged longitudinal section thereof on line 2-2, Fig. 1. Figures 3, t and 5 are transverse sections on the correspondingly numbered lines in Fi 2.
bimilar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
For the purpose of illustration, the improvement is shown as applied to a baby carriage 10, represented by dotted lines in Fig. 1.
Arranged transversely at the head end of the carriage is a rigid child-retaining and bottle supporting member or bar 11 which is suitably attached at its ends to brackets 12, 12 provided with screw shanks 13 which pass through openings in the side walls of the carriage, butterfly nuts 14 being provided for removably securing said brackets in place. One end of this bar is preferably hinged to its corresponding bracket, as shown at 15, to permit it to swing in a horizontal plane, while the other end thereof is adapted to be removably seated in an upwardly opening recess 16 formed in the corresponding bracket 12 and locked in position by a rotatable cam disk '17 fulcrumed on the adjacent end of said bar and interlocking with a downwardly-facing shoulder 18 formed on the inside face of said lastnamed bracket, as shown in Figs. 2 and 5.
Adjustable lengthwise of the supporting Serial No. 514,926.
bar 11 and transversely of the carriage is the nursing bottle holder which preferably includes a main section or slide 19 mounted for longitudinal movement on said bar and a supplemental section 20 adjustably connected to the rear end of said main section and adapted to removably support the nursing bottle 21. The main section 19 preferably comprises two hinged leaves 22, 23 which are mounted on the upper side of the supporting bar, the lower section 22 being provided with a pair of depending guide lugs 24 which engage a longitudinal slot 25 formed in said bar. A clamping screw 26 having its head engaging the underside of the bar, serves to reliably fasten the holder in a set position on its supporting bar. Said leaves are hinged at their rear ends, while projecting from their front ends are similar extensions 27 which are shaped to form a substantially spherical socket 28 for receiving the ball member 29 of the supplemental bottle section 20. A clamping screw 30 is provided for holding these leaves in their closed position and for causing the socketed extensions 27 to frictionally grip the ball member 29.. The head 31 of this clamping screw preferably engages with its underside against the opposing side of a segmental rib 32 formed on the upper leaf 33, said rid inclining from its center toward both ends to tightly wedge the head 31 in place.
This improved nursing bottle holder enables the bottle' to be adjusted to any desired position transversely of the carriage, and the universal joint connection of the bottleholding section 20 with the main section 19 permits the bottle to be moved easily to any position to suit the comforts of the child in nursing. Furthermore, the hinged supporting bar 11 serves the additional function of a safety strap to prevent the child from falling out of the carriage. Being rigid, this bar or strap prevents the bottle-holder from tilting or sagging after being adjusted to suit the child, thus reliably holding the bottle in place.
If desired, the slot 25 in the supporting bar may be made longer to receive two bottle holders for accommodating twins.
I claim as my invention:
A device of the character described, comprising a pair of brackets adapted to be attached to opposite Walls of a baby-carriage or the like, each of said brackets being provided on its outer side with a screw-shank carrying a clamping nut, one of said brackets having on its inner side a substantially upright pivot-pin, a combined bottle-support and child 'retaining member comprising a rigid cross bar mounted at one end on said pin to swing in a substantially horizontal plane and provided at its free end with means for securing it to the other bracket, and a bottle-holding device mounted on said cross bar.
