PATENT OFFICE.
IRVING A. FEATHERMAN, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
CORNER FOR METAL BEDS.
Application filed July 3, 1922. Serial No. 572,361.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IRVING A. FEATHER- MAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Corners for Metal Beds, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to corners for metal beds adapted to support the posts and also the end rails, and has for its object to produce a corner that will give rigidity and strength to the completed structure and will also make it practically impossible for a construction to be insecure, wol ibly or loosely mated as to the parts joined to the corner. It is my purpose to so form my corners that when the posts are secured to the corner, the very connections in themselves will, of necessity give added strength to the assembly.
I accomplish my objects by the construction hereinafter set forth, pointed out in my claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 shows a plan View of my improved corner, some of the parts being shown by the dotted lines;
Fig. 2 shows a side elevation view of the same; I I
Fig. 3 shows a transverse sectional view of the same;
Fig. 4 shows a detail view of the spanner I employ and Fig. 5 shows a portion of the frame of a bed disclosing the post and its manner of anchoring to the corner.
Referring to the accompanying drawings the reference numeral 10 is usedto indicate the body of a bed corner, provided with its tapering channel 11, to receive an end, or side rail (not shown) in which has been secured (by the chilling process) a rail 12. Thus far my construction does not materially differ from the usual and customary construction.
To this corner 10, while being chilled, I add a flange, or flapl3, which preferably extends the full length of the corner, the fla and corner joining so as to form a rig t angular joint, 14, as shown. A staple 15 is also secured in the corner, while being chilled, one of its ends being embedded in the flap and its other end embedded in the corner proper, the staple thus spanning the right angular oint formed by the corner and the flap. The staple is preferably formed With lugs on its ends, as shown in Fig. 4
of the post, thus forcing the post firmly against the sides of the flap and corner and anchoring it securely in that position.
Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letter Patent of the United States is:
A corner for metal beds comprising a body portion and a flange portion formed at right angles thereon, a rail-attaching de vice on the body portion, a rail embedded in the body portion and a staple adapted for attachment to a post spanning the angle.
formed by the said body and flange portions and having one leg embedded in the flange portion and the other leg embedded in the body portion and passing through an open ing in the embedded rail.
In testimony whereof, I have signed the foregoing specification.
IRVING A. F EATHERM AN.
