JAMES W. BAKER, OF DOTI-IAN, ALABAMA.
BOX.
Application filed June 24, 1922. Serial No. 570,600.
To (2Z7 whom, i! may concern.
Be it known thatl, JAMES 1V. BAKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dothan, in the county of Houston and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Box; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention provides a. box which answers the two .fold purpose of a depositary for orders, tickets, slips and the like and as an advertising medium and desk, the latter providing convenient means for supporting the order blanks while filling in the same and displaying the matter to be brought to the attention of the public.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent and suggest themselves as the nature of the invention is understood.
While the drawing illustrates an embodiment of the invention it is to be understood that in adapting the same to meet different conditions and requirements, various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the nature of the invention.
Referring to the accompanying drawing forming a part of the specification,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a device embodying the invention,
Figure 2 is a vertical central longitudinal section, and
Figure 3 is a transverse section on the line of Figure 2 looking to the left as designated by the arrows.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and designated in the severalviews of the drawing by like reference characters.
The device comprises an elongated base formed oflongitudinal strips 1 and end strips 2. An intermediate strip 3 is located near one end of the base and cooperates with the adjacent end strip to support the box 4. The sides of the box 4 project slightly beyond the sides of the longitudinal strips 1. The top 5 of the box is hinged and when closed is secured by any suitable locking device, a hasp or pad lock 6 being shown. An opening is provided in the top 5 to receive orders, tickets. slips and the like to be deposited in the box. The front of the box 4 consists of a glass plate 7 which admits of the interior of the box being under observation so that orders deposited therein may be seen to insure due collection.
A glass plate 8 formsthe top of the base to one side of the box l and rests upon the longitudinal strips 1 and the end strip 2 remote from the box 4. Cross pieces 9 sup port the inner end of the glass plate 8 and the intermediate portion thereof and are secured at their ends to the longitudinal strips 1. Side strips 10 are secured to the longitudina-l strips 1 and project above the latter a short distance and are formed in their inner faces with grooves to receive the longi tudinal edges of the glass plate 8. An end strip 11 is attached to the outer end strip 2 and projects above the upper edge thereof a short distance, the projecting portion being grooved to receive the outer end of the plate 8. The bottom of the box 1 engages the inner end of the plate 8 to prevent inward movement thereof. The strips 10 and 11 are removable whereby to admit of detachment of the glass plate 8. A card 12 is placed beneath the glass plate 8 and is provided with suitable advertising matter to be dis played. The card 12 may be readily replaced by removing the glass plate 8 as will be readily understood.
Order blanks in tab-let form may be attached to the device as indicated at 13. The attaching means may consist of a chain 14 or like part. The base constitutes convenient means for supporting an order blank, sheets or cards when writing thereon besides containing advertising matter to be brought to the attention of the public. The device may be placed in any convenient po sition frequented by the public and provides convenient means for receiving orders for laundry or other work, such orders being collected at stated intervals which may be suitably designated on a convenient part of the device.
Having thus described the what I claim is 1. A device of the class described having a base, a deposit box supported thereon, the base having an extension beyond said box, advertising means'supported on the extension and overlapped at one end by the box, said advertising means including a plate to constitute a desk top, and side strips and an end strip detachably secured to said extension to overlap and retain said adverinvention,
tising means in place in combination with the box.
2. A device of the class described having a base, a deposit box supported thereon, said base having an extension beyond the deposit box, said base including an end strip and a cross piece, an advertising card resting on said end strip and cross piece, a transparent panel above said card, side strips and end strips provided with grooves receiving said panel, means detacliably securing said side strips and last mentioned end strips to said extension, the bottom of the'box being disposed relatively close to one end of the card and panel to coact with the first mentioned end strip in order to prevent longitudinal displacement of the card and panel, and a portion of the box being disposed directly over said cross piece and adjacent ends of the card and panel and depending below the upper surfaces of the side strips and being substantially in contact with the panel.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES W. BAKER.
