To all whom it may concern.'

Be it known that we, HARRY REICUMAN and ARTHUR R. SPANGENBERG, citizens of the United States, residing in Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio,

have invented new and useful Improvements in Combined Package and Trash Receptacles, of which the following is a specification.

An object of our invention is to produce a receptacle which is provided with separ'at'e compartments for the reception of packages and trash' and the outer Walls of which are rendered additionally useful as a surface upon which to display advertisements.

This object is attained in the receptacle described in the following specification.

Our improved receptacle is particularly designed to be used at street corners in place of the usual waste paper and trash cans to be found in cities, the particular purpose being to render the appearance of such receptacles more ornamental and' at the same time utilize the appearance for a utilitarian purpose, while simultaneously attracting attention to the receptacle and the purpose for which it is placed in position.

In the upper portion of the body a somewhat smaller compartment is formed in which a receptacle 13 is located removably.

The construction provides for corner posts 14 which are continued 4below the body and are split to provide feet 15, as shown in F ig. 6.

A bottom 16 is formed of angle irons for supporting the receptacle. At its top the frame is provided with angle'irons 17 which afford support for the package receptacle 13. A door 18 which is preferably of the sliding type, is provided for affording access to the trash container compartment. In Figs. 1 and 2 We have shown a door 19 for permitting access to the package compartment, the door being hinged at its lower edge and provided wlth a hasp 20 at itsA upper edge for locking the door against opening. This is shown in somewhat modified form in Fig. 4 in Which the entire top 21 is hinged and adapted to be lifted to permit the package container to be removed. To permit packages to be dropped into the package container we have providedl a slot 22 in cach side wall as shown'in Figs. 1 and 4.-

or other suitable means. Each corner plate is provided with offset edges which are formed with corrugations 26 having channels 27 therein. The channels 27 are provided for the reception of springs 30 extending from the ends of metal strips 31 which extend between the corner angle irons of the body and which are located in the offset edges of the plates 25 with the springs located in the channels 27. Eachy of these metal strips 31 is provided with a pressed portion 32 the upper edges of which form Shel-ves for supporting advertising cards which may be located between adjacent strips.

The springs may be 1ocated in any one of the channels 27 to adjust the positions of the strips according to the width of card to be displayed between adjacent strips. disclosed in Fig. 9 is provided with integrall-y formed spring ends 33,' lugs 34 being stamped from the strips to provide recesses into which the upper and lower edges of the cards may be slipped.

In placing our improved receptacle for access by those passing along the street, the side of the receptacle shown in Fig. 1, is placed to face the approaching pedestrians, the opposite side bearing the same reading matter and being provided with a like slot so that those approaching from the opposite side will. likewise have the uses and purposes of the receptacle brought to their attention. The openings 23 and 24 may be provided on each side and end so that trash may be thrown into the trash receptacle 12 from the street as well as from the sidewalk.

We have found a receptacle of this description to be particularly useful in the collection of magazines, tobacco and other articles for the soldiers and a further adaptation thereof may be the placing of a mail box in the upper portion, thus rendering the Vcon- -The modified form of strip I structionequally as serviceable as when used for the specific purpose disclosed in the drawing.

Having thus described our invention what we claim is A combined trash and package receptacle having its outer walls adapted to the display' of advertising matter thereon, said Walls having edge plates spaced therefrom and containing grooves-facing the outer surfaces of the walls, strips extending from one edge plate across the adjacent wall surface to the coperating edge plate and reciprocally mounted in the spaces between the plates and their cooperating walll surface, and springs on the strips adapted to occupy the `grooves of the plates to retain the strips in adjusted positions on advertising cards lo cated on the wall surface.
