HARRY A. SHANNON, 0F APPLETON, WISCONSIN.
CARD-DISPLAY CASE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 25, 1910. Serial No. 557,474.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that' I, IIARRY A. SHANNON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Appleton, county of Outagamie, and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Card-Display Cases, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in cases or racks for displaying cards and more especially illustrated postal cards, and has for its object the production of a device of this character which shall be capable of dis playing a maximum number of cards and be so constructed as to be readily foldable for the exclusion of dust and dirt, whereby greater life is given the cards.
A further object of my invention is to provide a device of the character stated which shall be simple of construction, inexpensive to manufacture and efficient in operation.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
With these objects in View my invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
My invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Figure 1 is a top plan view of my im proved card display case in its preferred form, showing the same in partially folded position, as when attached to a wall, Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1, except that the leaves of the device are in open position, Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the back of the device, the leaves thereof being removed for clearness of illustration, Fig. 4: is a top plan view showing the device folded and locked when not in use, Fig. 5 is a front elevation of the device when folded, as shown in Fig. 4, Fig. 6 is a side elevation of a leaf, and Figs. 7 and 8 are perspective views of card pockets, the same being omitted in all the fi ures, except Figs. 5 and 6, for clearness o illustration.
Referring now to the drawings, the case comprises two back main frames 1 having sheet metal covers 2, the arms 3 integral with and inclined to said frames being hinged together by a rod 4. Each leaf 5 is provided with arms 6 similar to arms 3 also hinged together by the rod 4, a flange 4 being provided to support the lower arms on said rod. The sheet metal back covers 2 are provided with apertures 7 by means of which the case may be hung up on the wall. In order to lock the case when folded, a latch 8 is pivoted as at 9 to one of the back frames 1, the latch being adapted to engage a pin 10 provided on the other back frame. Feet 11 and 12 are provided on the back frames 1 and leaves 5 respectively so that the case may be placed on a show-case or table if so desired.
Each leaf 5 and frame 1 contains vertically elongated subordinate frames 13 and horizontally elongated subordinate frames 14 to receive card pockets 13 and 14 respectively, one of each of the latter being shown mounted in Fig. 6. The back frames 1 are provided with slots 15, and the leaves 5 with perforations 16, and each card pocket is U-shaped and provided with card retaining flanges 17 and pins or trunnions 18 adapted to engage either said slots or said perforations. These trunnions. permit the card pockets to swing in the leaves 5, as indicated by dotted lines, whereby the pockets may be easily filled with cards or the same removed therefrom. The pockets which are arranged in the back frame 1 evidently cannot swing because of the sheet metal cover 2, hence the slots 17 are provided to facilitate the ready removal of the pockets for filling the same with cards.
It is apparent from the foregolng description that the cards are visible from either side of the card pockets, and that a large number of cards may be displayed 1n a moderate sized case.
While I have shown what I deem to be the preferable form of my improved card display case I do not wish to be llmited thereto as there might be various changes made in the details of construction and arrangement of parts described without departing from the spirit of the invention, and hence I desire to avail myself of such varlatlons and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a device of the class described, the combination of two hinged main frames provided with subordinate frames therein, the

said subordinate frames being provided with L-slia'ped siots in their sides; one or In testimony whereof i have signed my more intermediate hinged leaves having subname to this specification in the presence of ordinate frames therein provided with pivtW IbSQDlb .11g W1tIIQ Q otal perforations in their sides; and card HARRY A.
