INVENTOR I a ATTORNEY latented May 6, 1924.
PATENT @FFHCE.
GEORGE E. BAST, 01" EVERETT, WASHINGTON.
CAP-FORMING DEVICE.
Application filed June 10, 1922. Serial No. 567,365.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
3e it known that I, GEORGE E. EAST, a citizen of the United States, residing at Everett, in the county of Snohomish and State of l Vashington, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cap-Forming Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved tool or resizer, primarily adapted for reshaping the flanges of jar closures.
An object of the present invention is the provision of a tool for this purpose, which is simple in construction, eflicient in use and which may be operated for straightening or reshaping the flanges of jar closures without danger of damage to the usual porcelain lining.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation of the invention showing a jar closure or cap in place.
Figure 2 is a central sectional view of the same.
Referring in detail to the drawings, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates a base or male member which is provided at one end with a reduced tapered circular extremity 11, while at the inner end or base of the said reduced tapered extremity 11 there is provided an annular outwardly extending inclined flange 12.
o-operating with the male member 10 is a female member 13, the latter being provided with a depression or socket 14 for receiving the reduced tapered extremity 11 of the male member 10 and also for receiving a jar cap or closure 15. The mouth of the socket 1-1 of the female member is surrounded by an outwardly inclined or beveled edge 16 which co-operates with the annular inclined flange 12.
As illustrated in the drawings, the cap or closure 15 is placed upon the reduced irregularities of the flange so that the latter will accurately seat upon. the usual rubber gasket of a jar.
In order to provide convenient means whereby the female member 13 maybe rotated, the latter is provided witha gripping flange 17 around its outer periphery.
The top of the female member 13 is provided with an opening 18, through which I the finger may be inserted for the purpose of forcing the cap outward, when necessary.
The invention is: susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention what is claimed is A tool of the class described embodying a male member provided with a reduced tapered circular extremity, an annular inclined outwardly extending flange located at the base of the tapered extremity, a female member having a socket for the reception of the tapered extremity of the male member and capable of rotation on said male member, an annular beveled edge surrounding the mouth of the socket and cooperating with the inclined outwardly extending flange and a gripping flange'located upon the'outer surface of the female member whereby the female member may be rotated.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
GEORGE E. BAST.
