Be it known that I, WILLIAM RALPH TURNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State ofr Missourihavein vented a certainnew and useful Improvement in Roll-Paper-Pasting Machines, of which the following is a specification.

My invention. relatesto improvements in roll paper pasting machines.

One of the objects of my invention is to provide novel means for applying pasteito the upper side of a strip of paper drawn horizontally ofi' from a paper. roll, Such as a roll of wall paper. v

A further object of my invention is the provision of pasting means of the kind described which is simple, cheapgto manufacture, durable, not liable to get out of order, whichv can be efficiently operated by an unskilled person and which may be conveniently used in -connection with an ordinary pasting board. l e

`A further object of my invention is to provide novel means by which-paper drawn from a roll may be'accurately measured and positioned for severing into strips of desired length. l I f c My invention provides still further a novel paper supportingtable provided with a cutting groove in its upper surface ar-` ranged to cooperate*with fgraduations on a pasting board. i

. prise two pins 17, which exten-dthrough the bars 16 respectively andare-mounted inthe plegs 'i'.k L f The paper roll 15 is, yasuslkial, provided with a central longitudinal hole in which are adapted to he fitted conical blocks 18, Fig. 4, through which extends a horizontal removable rod 19, which has its ends removably fitted in the barsl at one side of the axis thereof.

The frame is provided at its upper end and at the other side ofthe axis thereof with paper bearing means comprising preferably a roller 20, secured on aV horizontal rod 21, having projecting ends which are preferably loosely rotatably mounted in the bars 16 respectively.

In the operation of mly invention, the paper is drawn from the roll 15, over and against the roller 20, and against the pastin roller 2. and over the groove 12, and onto the pasting board 10, to the graduation of the row 13, which indicates the length of strip desired to be severed. A suitable knife blade is then drawn through vthe groove 12, and through the overlying strip of paper 14, thus severing the strip.

When the strip of paper 14 is drawn along the top. of the pasting board 10, in the man- I ner just described, the pressure of the paper against the roller 2O will press the bars 16 so as to hold the periphery of the roll of paper 15 tightly against the paste covered periphery of the pasting roller 2.l

What I claim is v 1. In a roll paper pasting machine, a paste receptacle, a pasting roller rotatable in said receptacle, a table having a top and two legs, the latter being' attached to opposite sides respectively of said receptacle and the top having in its upper side a groove adapted to receive a cutting knife, and a paper roll supporting frame pivoted to the. legs of the table and having a roller adjacent to itsy upper end, and Vprovided adjacent to its lower end with means for supporting a paper roll in contact with the periphery of the pasting roller, the axes of said rollers and said groove being parallel with each other, the arrangement being such that when the paper from the roll is drawn over the frame roller and Said groove, the frame will hold the paper roll against said pasting roller, substantially as set forth.

2. In ia roll paper pasting machine, a

paste receptacle, a pasting roller rotatable thereon Yon a horizontal axis, a table having a top Iand provided with two legssupported by said receptacle, the table having means for attaching and supporting one end of. a pasting board, and la fraane pivoted to said table between said legs and having means at one side of its axis for supporting a roll of paper and for holding the latter against said pasting roller `and having at the other side of' its axis bearing means parallel with said roller and disposed at the side of the table opposite said attaching and supporting means, substantially as set forth.

3. In a roll paper pasting machine, a paste receptacle, a pasting roller rotatable therein on a horizontal axis, a table having two legs attached to and supported by said receptacle and having a top and provided with two brackets respectively secured to said legs and supporting said top and extending laterally from the latter and provided with means for supporting and holding from lateral movement one end of a pasting board, and means for supporting a paper roll, and for forcing the latter against `the pasting roller, when paper is withdrawn from the roll and over the top of the table between said brackets, substantially as set forth.

4. In a roll paper pasting machine, a table having two supporting legs and a top and provided with two brackets respectively attached to said legs and to the bottom of said `table top and projecting beyond one edge of the latter, the brackets having means for supporting and holding from lateral movement one end of a pasting board, n

side thereof and extending beyond one edge thereof, each bracket having an upwardly extending pin adapted to enter a hole in a pasting board, the bracketsy being adapted to support one end of the pasting board, means for supporting a paper roll, and means for applying paste to one side thereof when the paper is drawn from the roll across said groove, substantially as set forth.

6. In a roll paper pasting machine, a paste receptacle, a pasting roller rotatably mounted therein, two members extending upwardly from the receptacle at opposite ends respectively of said roller, two bars pivoted on a horizontal axis on said members, said axis and the axis of said roller being parallel, means for supporting a paper roll on said bars at one side of the 'axis thereof and in a posi-tion in which the bars may be swung so as to bring the roll of paper against the periphery of said roller, and a roller rotatably mounted on said bars at the opposite side of the axis thereof and parallel with the other roller, and adapted#Vr` to serve as a bearing for paper withdrawn from the roll and when so functioning serving to press the bars so as to hold the paper roll against the. pastingroller, substantially as set forth.

7. In a roll paper pasting machine, a table having a top provided in its upper side with a transverse groove adapted to receive a knife blade, the table having means for supporting one end of a pasting board with the upper side thereof in the same plane substantially as the upper side of the top of the table, and a pasting board having graduations arranged in a longitudinal row and co-operating with said groove, for measuring paper drawn across said groove and onto said pasting board, substantially as set forth.

8. In a roll paper pasting machine, a table having a top provided in its upper side with a transverse groove adapted to receive a knife blade, the table having means for supporting one end of a pasting board disposed at right angles to said groove, and a pasting board having a longitudinal row of graduations co-operating with said groove for measuring paper drawn over said groove and onto said pasting board, and means by which paste is applied to the side of said paper which constitutes the upper side, as the paper is drawn across said groove, substantially as set forth.

9. In a roll paper pasting machine, the combination with a pasting board having a longitudinal row of graduations, of a table having a top vand two legs, the upper side of the top having a groove at right angles to said row of graduations and cooperating therewith to serve as a scale for measuring v paper drawn across said groove onto said pasting board, the table having means for supporting one end of said board in the proper measuring position, a paste receptacle, a pasting roller rotatable on a horizontal axis in said receptacle, and a frame pivoted to said legson an axis parallel with the roller axis, said frame having means at one side o-f the axis thereof for supporting a paper roll, and provided at the other side of the axis thereof withbearing means over which paper withdrawn from the roll is drawn, the arrangement being such that paper drawn from the roll and on said bearing means and across said groove will press said frame so as to hold the paper roll against the periphery of the pasting roller, substantially as set forth.

l0. In a roll paper pasting machine, the combination with a paste receptacle, of a pasting roller rotatable on a horizontal axis in said receptacle, twomembers extending upwardly from said receptacle at opposite ends respectively of said roller, and a frame pivoted at opposite sides to vsaid members respectively on an axis parallel with the axis of said roller and having means at one side of the axis thereof for supporting a paper roll vin contact with said roller, and at the other side of the axis thereof having paper bearing means arranged to hold said frame so as to press the paper roll against the pasting ro-ller when paper from the roll is drawn therefrom and over said bearing means and across the axis of said frame, substantially as set forth.
