CORD-ANCHOR FIXTURE FOR BINDERS.

-= State of Illinois, have invented certain newY and useful Improvements in Cord-Anchor Fixtures for Binders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in temporary binders of that type in which the l5 papers to be bound are held in place in the binder by a lacing cord that is threaded through binding elements or wings that are hinged to the inner or adjacent margins of the covers and are threaded through the papers, books, or magazines to be bound in the binder, and the invention relates more specifically to fixtures that are fastened to one of the wings and about which the cord ends are wound so as to secure the loose ends of the cords and to maintain the desired binding pressure on the contents of the binder.
The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of the elements shown in the drawings and described in the specification, and is pointed out in the appended claims.

As shown in the drawings, 10, 10 designate the covers of the binder which are connected bythe usual flexible center piece or back. 11, l2 designate parallel binding wings or strips which are flexibly connected to the adjacent margins of the covers by the usual fabric hinge portions. The binding wing 11 is provided near its ends with openings 14 through which extend the end portions of the binding cord l5. As herein shown, a single or continuous cord is used, with its intermediate portion lying along the outer side of the wing 11 and with its Serial No. 512,817.

1.6, 16 designate xtures which are fastened to the outer sides ofthe binding wing 12, one near each end thereof, and about which the ends of the binding cords, after they are threaded through the papers and the said binding wings, are adapted vto be looped and to which said cord ends are anchored to maintain binding pressure of the cords on the contents of the binder between the wings and to hold the cord ends from slipping.
The fixture shown in Figures l, 2, and 3 comprises a flat metal Vplate 17 which is provided near its endswith openings 18 to receive fastening devices 19 which extend through saidk plate openings and openings in the wing l2 to fasten the fixture securely thereto. As shown, both said fastening devices consist of lhollow rivets or eyelets which are riveted at their ends overr the inner side .of the wing 12 and the outer side of the plate 17. One of said rivets or eyelets, the outer one, as herein shown, constitutes a cord guide through which the cord end extends and in which it is guided.

As shown in Figures l, 2, and 3, it is formed by metal that is struck up from the plate, and is, therefore, integral at one end with said plate. It is spaced away from the plate at its other 0r free end a distance to receive therebeneath the free end of the lacing cord.
The tongue is rounded at its free end and also at its sides to avoid cutting of the cord, and the terminal of the tongue is curved downwardly. It is preferably provided near its free end with a depression, formfromthat of the plate. Said horniisformed on its'side edge near the adjacent end of the plate with a recess 24 that is transverselyrounded to prevent cutting of the cord.
In use, when the cord ends have .been

tongue, it is carried along the plate at the side of the tongue and is looped over the recessed edge of said horn and is then drm-vnv backwardly and forced between the tongue andthe plate in the mannerV best shown in `Figure 2. If desired, the cord may be again looped over'fthe horn and again drawn between the tongue *andV plate to more securely hold the cordl end inV place. Usually one loop of the cord about said horn and the gripping action Yon theV cord between'the 20Y tongue and plate is sufficient-to hold *the Y cord end securely in place'and to'prevent slipping of the cord in the xture.
In Figure 1v the tongue 25 is shown as made a part separate from the plate 27 and is fastened `to said plate by the cord guide eyeletby which one end of the fixture is xed to the binding wing 12. The free end ofthe tongue 25 is shown as formed in the same manner as the tongue 20 before described, and its coaction with the horn 28 to grip the cord end and to hold it from' slipping is the sameas that shown in the previously described figures.A
