Description

J. W. LANG PIPE BIT Filed Feb. 4; 1922 Patented Apr. 8, 1924.
insane PATENT @Ffitifi.
JOHN W. LANG, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
PIPE BIT.
Application filed February 4, 1922.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN W. LANG, a citizen of United States, residing at San Fran cisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pipe Bits, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to a pipe bit, and has for its object the construction of a pipe stem or bit which will prevent the saliva from the mouth entering the pipe stem.
This pipe stem, or bit, is an improvement upon the pipe bit disclosed in my prior United States Patent No. 1,025,57 8, issued May 7, 1912.
The present improvement is to prevent the end of the perpendicular portion disclosed in my original patent, just identified, from irritating the tongue of the user.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of a pipe showing my bit partly. in section and attached thereto.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary view in side elevation of my pipe bit, while Figure 3 is a bottom plan view of the same.
tcferring to the drawing by numerals, 1 designates the stem of a pipe in which is placed a reduced portion 2 of the pipe bit 3. The outer end 4 of the pipe bit is rolled or bent into semi-circular form, and through the semicircular end 1 and the body of the pipe bit is a passage 5 that communicates with a passage 6 in the stem 1 of the pipe. The extreme inner end of the rolled end 4 is beveled, at 7 straight across, and terminates at its upper end in a projecting primary lip.8. Extending rearwardly from the bit is an auxiliary lip 9. The lip 9 is curved transversely (Fig. so as to allow a clearance for any foreign substance gathered between the lips 8 and 9. By rolling the outer end 4:, an open central portion 11 is formed Serial N0. 534,085.
which also assists in making the bit clean and sanitary by allowing the cleaning of the bit by means of a brush or other tool.
What I claim is:
1. A pipe bit having a longitudinally extending smolre passage, the rear end portion of said bit being reduced in thickness from its under face to provide an end extension, a ridge extending transversely across the under face of said bit at the inner end of said end extension, said end extension being bent to form a curl having its free end portion extending forwardly under its forward portion and terminating in spaced relation to said shoulder to provide a tooth receiving recess between the shoulder and the end ofsaid extension.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a pipe bit comprising a body having at its inner end a reduced portion adapted to enter the stem of a pipe, said bot y provit ed at its outer end with a rolled portion, said rolled portion having an open center, said rolled portion or end provided with a transverse straight beveled portion on its outer end terminating in an overhanging primary lip, said lip bear ing against the body of the bit, said body provided contiguous to the rolled portion with a transversely-curved auxiliary lip ad- I hereunto affix my J OHN WV. LANG.
