This invention relates to smokers appliances and more particularly to a ci ar having an improved mouthpiece so t at when the cigar is being smoked the portion which is normally gripped between the teeth will not be brokenl or chewed to a pulpy mass.

One object of the invention is to provide a mouthpiece engaged with the cigar during manufacture thereof and so associated with the cigar that it will not be liable to work loose while the cigar is being smoked.

Another object of the invention is to so assemble the cigar and mouthpiece rthat a tight joint will be formed between the same and thereby cause the cigar to draw well.

Another object of the invention is to r0- vide the mouthpiece with a stem exten ing into the cigar and so formed that it-will not only serve to anchor the mouthpiece to the cigar but also be prevented from easily becoming clogged when the cigar is being smoked.

The cigar, which is indicated in general by the numeral 1, includes the usual filler 2 and a wrapper 3. The mouthpiece 4 may be formed of wood` porcelain, hard rubber or any other suitable material and comprises a body portion 5 which tapers rearwardly to ay fiat neck or bight 6 to be gripped between the teeth while the cigar is smoked. The forward end portion of the body is hollowed to form a recess or pocket 7 the walls 8 of which have their forward free end portions converging. as shown in Fig. 2, so that when the filler is fitted into this recess it will -be compressed in spaced relation to its rear end and thereby firmly held in the pocket. It should be further noted that a portion of the filler overlaps the tapered forward ends of the walls 8 and the rear end portion of the wrapper overlaps the walls. Therefore, a tight joint will be formed between the mouthpiece and the wrapper which adheres to it and the cigar will draw prrperly. A tube 9 projects forwardly in axial r ation to the pocket 7 and constitutes a continuation of the bore 10 formed longitudinally in the body. The tube extends forwardly out of the pocket and is formed with a flared forward end 11 which serves to anchor the stem in the cigar and also serves to spread the tobacco leaves from which the filler is formed, as shown clearl and thereby revent the leaves from closing the tube an preventing a proper draft through the same.

When the cigar is being manufactured, the leaves from which the filler are formed are rolled into the proper shape and the rear end portion of the filler is disposed about the tube and compressed so that 1t may be fitted into the pocket 7. The filler has a tendency to expand in the pocket and, therefore, a binding action will take lace which will retain the mouthpiece in' rm grippin engagement with the filler. After the fil er is engaged with the mouthpiece with a. portion thereof overlapping the tapered forward end portion of the walls 8, the wrapper 3 is applied tothe filler and its rear end portion overlaps the walls and is caused to adhere to the same. Therefore, the mouthpiece will be firmly held in place and a very glood joint provided so that air may be rawn through the mouthpiece and the cigar smoked in the usual manner. Since each cigar is provided with one of the mouthpieces, they will not be used again and, therefore, will not become strong or usanitary. p

Having thus described the invention, I claim:

In combination with a cigar including a at 12 in Fig. 2,

` filler and wrapper, a mouthpiece comprising a body adapted to be held in the mouth and having a longitudinally extending bore, the forward portion of said body beingr formed with a socket receiving the rear end portion of the filler and the rear end portion of. the wrapper being disposed about the walls of the socket to provide an air-tight joint between the mouthpiece and cigar` the free forward end portions of the walls of the socket converging forwardly to securely hold the mouthpiece in engagement with the filler, and a tube extending forwardly from the bodv and registering with its bore and embedded in the filler.
