Be it known that I, Jon-N- SANDERS, a citizen of the United: States, residing at Denver, in the county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Quick-Release Devices for Tank Closures; and I do hereby declare the following to=be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention; such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates t a quick release device for tank. closures,. and more particu larly to a device adapted for use in connec tion with tanks or similar reservoirs used for the storing of combustible fluids; object of the present invention is to provide a device of the character indicated embodying a simplified structure adapted to application totank closures already inv use, and a further object is to provide a device of the character indicated of an inexpensive, simple, but at the same time, a positive and reliable character.
The invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combinations of parts hereinafter more particularly described and claimed.
One sheet of drawing accompanies this specification as part thereof, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of the invention, parts being broken away to more fully illustrate its operation;

Referring to the drawings, 1 indicates the wall of the tank structure to which is socured a port 2 having a flange 3 to which in turn is secured a face plate t. A closure member 5 provided with a suitable annular gasket 5 adapted to engage with face plate 4 is provided and this closure plate 5 is pr0- vided with a plurality of spaced peripheral angular shoulders 6.

The'arm 11 of each clamping member is formed on its outer end into a yoke 12, to the arms of which are pivotally connected pulleys 13. A lever 15* is pivotally supported uponarm' 11 carrying on its inner end two angularly disposed pulleys 1617 and upon its other end is provided a lug 18 adapted to slide in a: slot/19 provided in the lever 8. Single pulleys 20 are suit-- ably secured to port 2 one on either side of pulley 17, as is well illustrated in Fig. 1. Additional guide pulleys 20 may be placed around port 2' if desired, intermediatethe respective pairs f the pulleys 20.
A cable C is provided with a loop 0 which loop is passed successively through pulleys 2017-2O and over the guide pulleys 20 while a cable G provided with a loop 0 is passed around pulleys 13-1613 of the successive clamping units.
In operation, it will be apparent that a pull upon cable C will operate through loop 0 to draw pulleys 17 inward toward pulleys 20, thus operating lever 15 and in turn through lug 19, lever 8 to draw the clamping member 7 out of engagement with the angular shoulder 6 of the face plate and thus release the closure 5. To close the device, a pull upon cable G will operate through loopc to draw pulleys 16 out wardly toward pulleys 13, reversing the motion of lever 15 and hence through lug 19 of lever 8 to swing the clamping member 7 into engagement with 11w 6.
To permit adjustment of the device to varying face plates or to take up wear in the gaskets, lever 15 is adj ustably mounted upon arm 11 by providing in thelatter a slot extending perpendicular to the plane of the closure plate. The pivot 14: for lever 15 is provided with oppositely disposed parallel faces 14 adapted to slide in this slot and set screws 22 threaded through arm ll from opposite sides permit the adjustment of the pivot 14 as may be desired. By varying the fulcrum point of lever 15 in the direction indicated, it will be apparent that the op eration of lever 8 can be modified to vary the degree through which the clamping member 7 will be operated.
Various modifications in the precise arrangement and construction of the parts will readily suggest themselves to those skilled in the art, but fall within the scope of the present invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim: I
1. The combination of a port, a closure, a
plurality of clamping devices spaced circumferentially of the port, and means operative of said clan'iping devices whereby they may be entirely withdrawn beyond the circumference of the closure.
2. The combination of a port, a closure, a plurality of clamping devices mounted circumferentially of the port, and common means operative of said clamping devices whereby they may be entirely withdrawn beyond the circumference of the closure.
3. A clamping device for securing a closure to a port adapted to be mounted circumferentially of the port and comprising a pivoted clamping member, a lever having pulleys mounted on one end and its other end in operative engagement with the clampmg member, cords playing in said pulleys and guide pulleys for each cord oppo-- sitely disposed so that tension applied to so that tension applied to said cords in the same direction will operate said lever in opposite d1rect1ons.
5. A qmck release closure device comprising in combination a port, a closure adapted to be forced into sealing relation with the face of the port, a plurality oi clamping levers pivotally mounted circumferentially on the port, levers one operative of each of said clamping members, said operative levers each having two pulleys on one end, cords looped and passed each successively through one of the pulleys on each operative lever, and guide pulleys'for each of said cord loops whereby tension on said loops in the same direction will operate said levers in opposite directions but all in unison in either direction.
