UNETE STATES WILLIAM G. KENDALL, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
VANITY CASE.
Application filed December 13, 1922. Serial No. 606,658.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM G. KENDALL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Newark, in the county of EsseX and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Vanity Case, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in vanity cases, and it pertains more particularly to a device of this character especially adapted for carrying powder compacts.
It is one of the objects of the present invention to so construct a powder case that a rouge compact and a face powder compact may be carried thereby in such a manner that either of the compacts is readily accessible.
It is a further object of the invention to so construct the vanity case that its body portion has two open sides with-the com pacts supported between the open sides within the body.
It is a further object of the invention to provide a vanity case having an open body and a plurality of covers hinged to the body and adapted to close the same.
With the above and other objects in view, reference is had to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a view in elevation of a vanity case constructed in accordance with the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken through the vanity case;
Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view taken through the vanity case on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
Referring more particularly of the drawings, the reference character 5 designates the body of the vanity case, and said body comprises a preferably circular band having two open sides 6 and 7. Intermediate of the side edges of said band 5, a bead 8 is formed, and such bead extends entirely around the body 5. The formation of this bead provides an inner channel 9, the purpose of which will be hereinafter described.
Hingedly secured as at 10 and 11 to the body portion 5, are covers 12 and 13, respectivel and each of such covers carries a mirror 14.
The reference character 15 designates a powder compact, and such powder compact comprises face powder and rouge, or other combination of cosmetics, carried by a plate in a manner described in another application filed by me simultaneously herewith, and, therefore, the specific construction of such compact is not herein described.
The powder compact does, however, comprise a metallic plate having beveled sides 16, and said beveled sides form a projecting portion 17 adapted to be received within the channel 9 formed by the bead 8.
By this construction it is apparent that after the cosmetics have been completely used, the compact 15 may be removed and replaced by a new one without in any way defacing or injuring the body of the vanity case, thus rendering the vanity case capable of indefinite use.
From the foregoing it is apparent that the present invention provides a vanity case in which a combination of cosmetics may be used, and at the same time, by the construc tion of the vanity case, the cosmetics as they are completely used up may be replaced in the case by other cosmetics.
What is claimed is:
1. A vanity case comprising a body portion having two open sides, a centrally disposed channel formed in said body portion, and a rigid compact carrier, said rigid compact carrier adapted to be removably secured in the channel of the body portion of the vanity case.
2. A vanity case comprising a body portion formed with an inwardly disposed channel extending throughout the circumference of said body portion, and a rigid cosmetic carrier having beveled sides and adapted to be removably received within said channel to support the cosmetic carrier within the vanity case.
3. A vanity case comprising a body portion formed from an endless band and having a channel formed substantially centrally of the side edges of said band and extending throughout the circumferential length thereof, a cover hinged to opposite sides of said band and adapted to form with the band a receptacle, and a cosmetic compact, said compact having beveled sides adapted to be received within the channel of the band to secure the same in position therein.
WILLIAM G. KENDALL.
