To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that JOHN J. J AsKn', a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Michigan City, in the county of Laporte and State of Indiana, has invented new and useful Improvements in Cup Stands for Lamps, of which the following is a specification.

The object of the invention is to provide a simple and eflicient means for supporting a cup or like utensil for cooking and heating purposes upon the chimney of a lamp, and adapted particularly for use in the sick room or nursery and designed to provide is for its application with facility to the lamp chimney and to serve its purpose without interfering with the draft of the lamp, so that it may remain in position on the chimney for periodic use without interfering 80 with the normal functions of the lamp; and

with these objects in view the invention consists in a construction and combination of parts of which a preferred embodiment is shown in the accompanying drawings, 26 wherein:

Figure 1 is a side view partly in section of a cup stand embodying the invention applied in the operative position to a lamp chimney.

Figure 2 is a detail sectional view of a portion of the stand.

Figure 3 is a lan view of the device. The stand em odies essentially an upper or seat ring 10, a lower or bearing ring 11 from the plane of which the seat ring is spaced a distance sufficient to permit of the free circulation of air and gases through the lamp chimney indicated at 12, and spring arms 18 attachedto and depending from the bearing ring for engagement with the lamp chimney and extended above said bearing ring and attached to the seat ring to form standards or spacing elements 14. The means for connecting the chimney engaging arms with the bearing and seat rings may be of various constructions but as indicated consists of rivets 15 and 16 of which the former extend through transverse outwardly directed offsets or shoulders 17 formed at intermediate portions of the lengths of the blanks constituting said arms and standards and bearing upon the upper surface of the bearing ring. The upper ends of the standards 14 are curved inwardly to conform to the under surface of the seat ring 10 which is preferably convexed upwardly to form asuitable bearing for a cup 18 or its equivalent.

In the construction illustrated the chimney engaging arms are arranged to fit within the chimney as shown in Figure l and are terminally deflected outwardly as shown at 19 to substantially engage the rounded shoulder usually provided near the upper ends of chimneys of the conventional form.

he normal position of the extremities of the chimney engaging arms is such that they lie within an area corresponding in diameter to the diameter of the upper edge or bead of the chimney so that in placing the stand it is simply necessary to locate the same above the chimney and then force it downward until the arms have properly engaged the chimney and the bearing ring comes into contact with the head of the chimney.

The curvature of the seat ring has a tendency to concentrate the heat upon the bottom of the receptacle resting thereon and thereby to increase the efiiciency of the apparatus in heating the contents of the receptacle.

Having described the invention, what is claimed as new and useful is 1. A receptacle supporting stand for lamp chimneys having spaced seat and bearing rings and yielding arms depending from the bearing ring for engagement with the lamp chimney, the bearing arms being extended between and secured to said rings to form spacing members or standards, and having outwardly directed shoulders or offsets resting upon and secured to the upper surface of the bearing ring.

2. A receptacle supporting stand for lamp chimneys having spaced seat and bearing rings and yielding arms depending from the bearing ring for engagement with the lamp chimney, the bearing arms being extended between and secured to said rings to form spacing members or standards, the seat ring being transversely arched to present a concaved under surface.
