OIL-STOVE CHIMNEY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 30, 1920.
Application filed September 21, 1918. Serial 'No. 255,111.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOREN D. MASON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kokomo, in the county of Howard and State of Indiana, have invented new and useful Im' provements in Oil-Stove Chimneys, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to oil stove chimneys, the object in view being to provide a practical, economical and reliable chimney for use in connection with oil stoves, whereby heat is conserved and more evenly distributed upon the bottom of a vessel or utensil of any kind placed over the chimney.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction con'ibination and arrangement of parts, as herein described, illustrated and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved chimney.
Fig. '2 is a vertical section through the same.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the chimney.
Fig. 4L is a bottom plan view thereof.
The improved chimney comprises a hollow cylindrical body 1 of practically uniform diameter from top to bottom. At the bottom, the chimney is formed with an inwardly extending annular flange 2 adapted to rest upon the rim of an oil burner, said flange being formed with perforations 3 to provide for the necessary draft and supply of air to the burner. At a suitable elevation above the bottom, the body 1 is formed with a door opening at which is adapted to be guides being opened and closed by means of a horizontally slidable arcuate door 5 having a glazed observation opening 6 and provided with a suitable operating handle 7, said door being slidable between arcuate guides 8, said formed of strips of sheet metal which are suitably offset as shown and riveted or otherwise secured to the body 1.
Adjacent to its top, the body 1 is formed with an annular bead 9 forming an annular rest or shoulder for an upwardly flaring rim 10. The upwardly flaring rim 10 prevents Located centrally within the rim is a heat deflecting disk 11 formed with perforations 12 to allow the heat to reach the center of the superimposed vessel or utensil. Said' heat deflecting disk is supported by means of a diametrically extending strap 13, the opposite extremities of which are secured by fastening means 1% to the rim 10. Said deflector directs a portion of the heat outwardly so as to act against all portions of the bottom of the vessel or utensil placed above the supporting rim.
The chimney above described is admirably adapted for use in connection with a cooking stove and may be used for all kinds of cooking, baking and laundry work. In economy and efficiency it has been found to be far superior to all devices of a similar character now on the market as far as I am aware.
I claim:
1. A chimney for the purpose specified, comprising a hollow cylindrical upright body of substantially uniform diameter throughout, an internal annular flange at the bottom of said body formed with perforations, an upwardly flaring rim at the top of said body, said rim being imperforate throughout its entire area and servingas an air current protector, and a perforated disk shaped heat deflector located centrally of and supported by said rim adjacent to the bottom of the latter.
2. The combination with the chimney of an oil stove, of an upwardly flaring rim located on the top of the chimney said rim being imperforate throughout its entire area and serving as an air current protector and also as a means to distribute heat rising through the chimney, and a perforated disk shaped heat deflector located centrally of and supported by said rim adjacent to the bottom of the latter.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature.
LOREN D. MASON.
