To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK JENSEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Salt Lake City, in the county of Salt Lake and State of Utah, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Advertising- Card Holders and Match Scratchers, of which the following is a specification.
Mv invention relates to match scratching devices, and has for its object to provide an economical simple device which may be detachably fastened on the steering wheel of a road vehicle such as an automobile or truck on which the driver of the vehicle may strike a match, and in which may be displayed advertising matter, and which device is so economical in construction and cost that it may be given away by parties who advertise on the displayed cards carried therein.
These objects I accomplish with the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which similar letters and numerals of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views, and as described in the specification forming a part of this application and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings in which I have shown a substantial embodiment of my invention Figure 1 is a front elevation of the device fastened in place on a spoke of the steering wheel. Figure 2 is a plan view of the device with the tie straps shown straight and before they are bent around the spoke, somewhat enlarged from the view in Figure 1. Figure 3 is an edge view of one end of the device. The entire device is marked B and it is to be fastened on the spoke A of a steering wheel. The device consists of a fiat piece of sheet metal having an elongated slot 1 cut therein, and having integral pieces formed as straps 2 on two corners thereof, with another strap 3 having a slot cut in one end thereof, and the fourth strap 4 integral with the remaining lower corner of the sheet. Portions of the device are cut and struck down to form card holding lugs 6 and 7, while other portions are struck down in two parallel grooves 5 each having corrugations formed at right angles to the general course of the grooves to form a roughened surface on which matches may be struck or lighted. The device is fastened on the spoke A of the wheel by bending the straps 2 around the spoke and by inserting the end portion of strap 4: through the slot in strap 3 and bending the end of the strap a on itself to fasten the device more firmly than by using four straps similar to 2.
The device with such advertising matter, as may be printed on a strip of card board which may be placed behind the slot 1 and held in place by the lugs 6 and 7, is secured on one of the spokes and is convenient at all times for the driver of the vehicle to strike a match by friction with the corrugations in the grooves 5.
Having thus described my invention I desire to secure by claim A match scratching device consisting of a sheet of metal having an elongated slot centrally therein, grooves struck into the metal adjacent said slot, card holding lugs struck from said metal and integral therewith, opposed straps extended from two corners of said sheet, and adapted to encircle the spoke of a steering wheel, another strap having a slit near its free end, and another integral strap extended from the opposite side edge of said through the said slit and bent upon itself to secure said device on a spoke.
