To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LAURITZ W- ANDER- snN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Waterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Shade Holders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawmgs.

This invention relates generally to shade holders and more particularly to a device for holding a silk or parchment shade in a downward or suspended position around an incandescent lamp.

The object of the invention is to provide an exceedingly cheap and simple form of holder which can be quickly and easily attached to or detached from the ordinary lamp socket and which will securely hold the shade after the same has once been connected thereto.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character from which one shade can be quickly and easily removed and another shade substituted when desired.

With these various objects in view the invention consists in the novel features of construction hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims. 7

In the drawings forming part of this specification, Fig. 1 is a view showing the practical application of my invention, the shade holder being shown in elevation and the shade in section; Fig. 2 is an inverted perspective of the device; and Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the shade holder and shade carrying frame.

In the practical embodiment of my invention I employ a collar 10 preferably formed with an inturned flange 10 said collar being slotted at 10 to provide a plurality of resilient members 10 and this slotted portion is grooved as shown at 10 in order to receive the bead of the ordinary incandescent lamp socket.

Surrounding this resilient collar which constitutes a socket receiving member, is a sheet metal band 11 flanged as shown, that is, one portion 11 of said band being vertical and the lower portion 11 thereof obliquely flared thereby providing an annular shoulder upon which the inner ring 12 of the frame of the shade is adapted to rest, the outer ring 13 of the shade frame being connected directly to the shade 14 and the outer The band -1-1isalso connected to the collar 10 by means of right. angular shaped wire arms 16. The upper portion of the band 11 is formed with a plurality of integral tongues 17, said tongues being punched from the vertical portion of the band and h are adapted to be turned down over the inner wire ring of the shade frame as most clearly shown, thereby securely connecting the shade to the holder. 7

d When it is desired to connect the shade to the lamp in the position indicated, it is only necessary to snap the collar over the lower end of the socket and the connection of the shade to the socket is complete.

When it is desired to remove the shade from the lamp itis only necessary to spring the collar away from the lamp socket, it being understood of course, that the incandescent lamp is removed from the socket when the shade holder is being attached to or de tached from the said socket.

When it is desired to remove the shade from the holder, it is only necessary to bend back the tongues so as to release the inner ring of the frame, and the frame can then be disconnected from the band and a new shade and frame substituted and connected when desired.

It will thus be seen that I provide an eX- and arms connecting said collar and band,

thereto,-sa-id band having bendable tongues punched therefrom, a ring constituting a part of a shade frame and adapted to rest upon the flanged band and be engaged by said tongues.

4. A device of the kind described comprising a socket receiving member, a band having a vertical portion and an outwardly extending portion providing a supporting shoulder, one portion of said band having tongues punched therefrom, and arms connectlng the socket recelving member with said band.

5. The combination with a socket receiv- 15 ing member, of a band comprising a vertical portion and an outwardly flared portion,

the vertical portion having integral tongues an inner ring and connecting arms, the inner ring of said frame being adapted to rest upon the band, the tongues of said band being adapted for engagement with the inner ring of the frame, to connect the same to the band.
