LAMP SOCKET.
Application led November This 'invention pertains -to an electrical fitting and more particularly the construction of Va lamp socket for use in vehicle lamps or the like embodying a reflector" and a vvsocket secured thereto for vsupporting a lamp bulb. j j
The principal feature of the invention resides in a structure of the character described which provides a simple and economical manner of rigidly and permanently securing 'the lamp socket and reflector together. j
The full nature of the invention will be understood from the accompanying drawings and the following description and claims.
Fig. 1 is a central vertical section through thelamp socket' and a portion of the reflector.: Fig. 2 is a rear elevation thereof.. f Fig. 3 is a side elevation thereof.
' In the drawings there is shown a portion of a reflectorv 10 of the usual character in which a lamp socket 11 is mounted. Said socket is provided with the usual bayonet slot 12 and has an opening in the rear end thereof for receiving the electrical connection or wire 13 which is attached to an insulating disc 14 slidably mounted Within `said socket. The compression spring 15 is positioned intermediate said disc and the rear end of the socket' for maintaining the same under spring pressure in electricalcontact with the lamp bulb not shown herein.
'The socket is formed cup shaped of a single piece of metal drawn into suitable cylindrical shape provided with a central opening in the rear end thereof while the front end is open. Said socket is formed with an annular outwardly extending bead 16 adapted to abut against the forward surface of the reflector 10 when the socket is mounted there/in. @ver the rear portion of the socket there is acup shaped retaining member 17 conforming in shape to that portion of the socket over which it is mounted,
said member having the edge surrounding its open end abutting directly against the rear surface of the reflector 10. Atone point a'iout the bead 16 there is a latterly'extending portion 18 stamped therein which -projects through a slot formed adjacent the opening of theJ reector and into a corre- 2o, 192e.. serial no. 149,605.
After the socket has been placed in posi- :tion with respect to the reflector and the members rigidly together in position toI clamp themselves within the reflector. It will be noticed that said eyelet forms a suitable opening through which the conduit may extend. f
The invention claimed: v i
- 1. In a lamp socket, a support therefor having an opening through which the rear `of said socket extends, a projection extending outwardly from said socket in position to abut against one surface of the support, a clamping member. formed over the rear portion of said socket in position to engage against the opposite portion of said support whereby said support will be clamped between said member and said projection, and an eyelet clamped through the rear adjacent ends of said socket and member for securing them rigidly, together and providing an opening therethrough.
2. In a lamp socket, a support therefor .having an opening through which the vrear of said socket extends. a peripheral bead formed about said socket intermediate its ends i-n position to abut against the forward surface of the support, .a cup-shaped clamping member conforming to the shape of said socket and mounted over the rear portion thereof in position to have its forward edge abut the rear surface of said support, and
ingmemher conforming to the shape of said sot-liet' und mounted over the rear portion thereof in poeition to have its forward edge :lhut the ren r surface of Saittsupport, an eyelet adapted to secure the rear ends of said lQoc'ket and member together and haring an opening therein through which n Conduit may extend, and means for interlocking said socket, support and member for preventing their relative rotation.
In Witness whereof, I have hereunto alfxed my signature.
