JOHN C. SMITH, OI" MONACA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO SOLAR ELECTRIC COMPANY, A CORPORATION OF ILLINOIS.
LIGHTING-SOCKET SUPPORT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN C. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Monaca, in the county of Beaver and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Lighting- Socket Supports, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is designed to hold an electric light bulb socket within the globe without any exterior means of attachment.
As shown in the drawings, I have shown my invention in connection with a globe which is designed to be placed upon the floor, though it will be apparent that it can be used in any kind of a globe, where it is desired to support an electric light bulb in the interior.
My means of accomplishing the foregoing objects may be more readily understood by having reference to the accompanying drawing which is hereunto annexed and is a part of this specification, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a globe equipped with my improved device, a portion of the globe being broken away to show the manner in which the socket is secured.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail view of the securing device.
Similar reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the entire description.
As shown in the drawings, the-globe 3, is provided with a base or pedestal 4:, which is designed to be placed upon the floor. It is provided with convolutions 5, which provide for circumferential annular grooves 6 which are substantially V-shaped, on vthe interior. The socket 7, is secured inside of the globe by means of a flat clamping mem- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 25, 1919.
Application filed May 25, 1916. Serial No. 99,875.
her 8, formed of resilient material, the sides 9 and 10 of which are bent downwardly .forming arms and shaped so as to coincide with the interior wall of the base 4 of the globe 3. A hole 10, is provided in one side of the base, through which are passed electric wires, 11, although it may be found desirable in some instances to lead the wires up directly from beneath the base of the globe, or they may be secured by means of tape, to the flat clamping members, the binding posts 13, passing through the top portion of the flat clamping member 8, and serving to fasten it securely to the socket 7.
Although I have shown and described a specific form of my invention, I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise form shown and described by the drawings, as many forms may be found desirable in practice which will fall within the scope of the hereinafter contained claim.
Having described my invention what I regard as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A combined globe and integral stand having an internal seat at their junctions, the
said stand having a base with an opening in its bottom and an opening in its side, a lighting fixture including an electric socket, a socket support comprising a member having a straight portion to which the socket is attached and extensions with shoulders between their ends; said shoulders entering said seats, and a conductor of electricity extending through the second mentioned opening and connected to the socket.
.In testimony whereof, I have signed the foregoing specification.
JOHN 0. SMITH.
