Be it known that l', REUBEN B. BENJA- MiN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful lmprovcments in Shade Holders, of which the following is a full., clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification.

My invention relates to sha-de holding de vices. One of the objects of my invention is to provide a shade holder which would be simple in construction, efficient in use,

' and cheap to manufacture, and which will enable shades of different types and dimensions to be securely held in proper relation to a supporting member.

Further objects will appear from the detailed description to follow and from the appended claims.

In the drawings in which an embodiment of my invention is shown- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a shade holder embodying my invention;

Fig. 2 is a side elevation, partly in section, of a shade holder and shade supported on a standard socket.

Referring to the drawings in detail the embodmentof my invention as illustrated is especially adapted to be used with sheet metal and enamel reflectors having an inturned flange. However, it will be understood that it may be adapted for use with other types than that shown without departing from the spirit of the invention.

My invention as shown comprises a ring or shade supporting niember 10 having a flange 11 arranged to support the shade 12 which is provided with an inturned flange 13 resting on the shade holder flange 11.

Lugs 11 are formed on the ring 10 and extend into the notches 15 in the flange 13 to prevent relative rotation of the parts.

1n Figures 2 and 3 I have shown the holder secured to a standard socket 16 having the usual bead 17. The shade holder, however, being secured above and resting on the bead.

The shade holder is secured to the socket by means of the clamping member 18. rlhis clamping member is preferably formed from a narrow flat strip and secured to the ears 19 on the ring 1() by means of the rivets 20. The ends 21 of the clamping member 18 extend laterally through the openings 22 in the upwardly extending ear 23 on the ring 10. The clamping member is clamped tightly on the socket by means of the screw extending through suitable openings in the ends 21, and secured by means of a nut 25. A portion of one of the ends 21 being turned outwardly at 26 to prevent the turning of the nut 25.

The openings 9.2 in the ear 23 are of sufficient size to allow considerable movement of the ends 21 in order that the clamping member may easily pass over the bead 17. Elongated openings 27 are provided in the ring 10 and arranged to allow the laterally extending curved portions 28 on the spring member 29 to extend therethrough. The spring 29 is preferably made in the form of a wire split ring of slightly greater' dialneter than the ring 10, so that when it is compressed and inserted in the ring lO with the portions Q8 extending through the openings 27 it is held securely in position.

In securing the shade on the shade holder, the shade holder is inserted in the shade until the flange 13 rests upon the shade holder flange 11. r1`he ends 3() of the spring member 29 are then pressed together and the spring 29 is inserted in the shade holder ring 10 and the outwardly extending portions Q8 are allowed to pass through the elongated openings 27 and over the flange 13. The portions Q8 of the spring member Q9 are angularly disposed with relation to the openings 27 and to the body of the ring so as to cause a downward spring pressure upon the flange 13 of the shade holder, thus fastening the shade securely in place.

lVhile 1 have described but one embodiment of my invent-ion, it is obvious that it may be embodied in other forms as Covered and delined by the appended claim.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and deeire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States isz- A Shade holder having an outwardly eX- tending annular flange for engagement with an inwardly extending annular flange on a shade, said shade holder having a Cylindrical port-ion above said shade flange having openings. above said shade flange to hold said 15 Shade flange down against said shade holder flange, the bent portions of said i'ing being inclined with respect to the shade flange to wedge it downwardly.
