One of the objects of my invention is to provide a shade holder which "is 'simple in 'construction,"efi'icient'in use and cheap to manufacture, and which will enablfishades and globes of different types and dimensions tube securely held in" proper relation to the shade supporting member and the lamp used in connection therewith.
Further objects will appear from the detailed description to follow and from the appended claims.
In the drawings in which an embodiment of my invention is shown:
Figure 1 is a side'elevation of an elec tric light socket provided with my improved shade holder, a part of the shade holder and the shade used in connection therewith being shown in section; and
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the shade holder and socket as illustrated in Fig. 1.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, the embodiment of my invention as illustrated is especially adapted to be used with glass shades or globes having an outturned flange. However, it will be understood that it may be used for other types than that shown'without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings 1 have illustrated my invention as used in connection with a standard socket 10 having a threaded outer casing 11 and arranged to be supported by means of the ring nozzle 12, the socket also being provided with an insulating base 13 as shown in Fig. 2 having suitable center and shell contacts mounted thereon.
The shade holder comprises a threaded portion 14 arranged to .be screwed into and supported by the threaded socket casing 11 and provided with an outwardly extending; flange 15, the flange being offset near its" outer edge as shown at 16 to provide a seat 5 17 for the shade supporting members and My invention relates to shade holding the inturned flange 18 of the ring or looking I cover 19.

In inserting the shade in theshade holder it is only necessary to press theflange 21 of the shade against the outwardly and downwardly inclined portion 26 of the supwardly against the tension of the springs 28 and when the shade is inserted in the holder to the position shown inFig. 1 the flange 21 will be supported on the 'inturned portion 25 of the supporting member which will be held in place by means of the spring 28. It has also been found that a downward pull on the-shade 22 tends to pull the supporting members 20 downwardly against the seat 17 of the flange 15 and thus to force the inturned portion 25 still more securely against the shade flange 21.

Having thus fully described my invention I claim as new and desire to secure'by Letters Patent: v
1. A-sliade holder comprising a threaded supporting member, an outwardly extending flange on said supporting member, shade supporting members pivoted on said flange and resting on the'upper surface thereof, portions of said shade supporting member extending below said flange to engage a shade, and springs connecting said shade supporting members with each other to hold said shade supporting members'impositively against outward movement.

A shade holder comprising a connecting means to be attached to a socket casing, an outwardly extending flange on said means, shade supporting members pivoted on said flange and resting on the upper sur- 7 face, thereof, said shadesupporting members extending radially beyond the periphery of said flange and having downwardly and inwardly extending end portions to engage a shade, the opposite end portions of said shade supporting members extending through said flange, and spring members connecting the said opposite end portions with each other.
3. A shade holding device comprising a circular cover and supporting member, for extending acrossthe open upper end of the shade, and provided with means for securing it in position with respect to a lamp socket, said member having' a plurality of openings. theret-hrough adjacent its periphery, a plurality of shade-engaging fingers extending through and pivotally mounted in said openings respectively, each of said fingers having an arm portion inside said cover, and a portion extending downwardly for gripping the shade, and spring means for acting on said arm portions to hold the gripping portions of said fingers in gripping relation with respect to the shade.
