' IMPROVEMENT IN DETACHABLE SHQE-TIPS AND SOLE-PRESERVERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. HQSJUES, dated March 3, 1&74; application filed August 4, 1873.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, MORRIS H. LEVETT, LoUIs Lnvnr'r, and ALEXANDER H. LEVETT, of the'city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Detachable Shoe-Tip and Sole-Preserver, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a side View of a shoe to which our improved device has been applied. Fig.
2 is a bottom View of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail cross-section of the same, taken through the line 00 00,- Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
A represents the upper, B represents the sole, and G the heel, of a shoe, about the construction of which parts there is nothing new. 1) is a plate, the edges of which are bent over, so as to clasp the edges of the sole B in the hollow of said sole, and the rear part of which. is bent outward to lie along the breast of the heel (l, to which it is secured by one or more small screws or nails, as shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3. The plate D may be made with an extension, (1, to cover the bottom of the heel, and The extension (1 may besecured in place by one or more small screws or nails, as shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3. The plate D may be removed by slipping it forward to the narrower part of said sole. E is a plate, which is so formed as to fit upon the forward part of the sole 13. Upon the forward part of the plate E is formed, or to it is attached, a tip, F, to fit over the toe of the shoe, as shown in Fig. 1. The rear part of the plate E extends back over the forward part of the plate D, and has a short slot formed in it to receive a button, G, swiveled to the said plate D, as shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3. The plate E is kept from slipping by four, more or less, points formed upon, or attached to, it, and which enter the sole B. v With this construction, the plate E and tip F can be readily detached when desired, so that they may be taken oif when in the house, and put on when going out of doors.
The side edges of the plate E may be slightly turned up to overlap the edges of the sole B.
The plates D E and tip F may be made of metal, or other suitable material, or the plates may be made of one material, and the tip of another.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with plate D, resting against heel O and embracing the edges of sole B, of the slotted tip-plate E F, swiveled on the plate 1), as and for the purpose set forth.
