UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
NATHAN L. POST, OF EAST CLEVELAND, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN BLACKING-BOX HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 147,976, dated February 2l, 1874; application lled Y January o, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NATHAN L. PosT, of East Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Holding Blacliing-Boxes; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in a device for holding blacking-boxes, so formed as to grasp the box at the bottom iiange at three separate points of contact-one of said points rigid and fixed, the other two movable, and, by the elasticity of the material of which they are composed, accommodating themselves to the form of the box, and at the same `time crowding it against the iixed point sufficiently to retain it iirmly.
The `device shown in the accompanying drawing is made of a single piece of wire, bent to form the handle A, and a skeleton-platform, B, upon which latter the blacking-box is to rest. At the front end of the skeleton-platform B is a fixed or stationary stop, a, against which the boX is pressed by the points b b. These two points are movable, and, by the elasticity of the material, accommodate themselves to the form of the box, forcing it against the fixed point a sufliciently strong to retain it iirmly in place. By the use of such a holder the cover may be removed and replaced without removing the box.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A blaeking-box holder consisting of the handle A, forming the skeleton-platform B, and provided with the stationary point a at its front, with the elastic and movable points b b, all constructed substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing l have hereunto set my handvthis 26th day of December, 1873.
