Be it known that we, Dr. JULIos THILo, chemist, and MARTIN GRUBUSCH, manager, both citizens of the German Republic, and
residing at Mainz, in the State of Hassia,
Germany, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Automatically- Operating Lever Looks for Ethyl-Chloride Flasks or Tubes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object the pro vision of an automatically operating lever lock for ethyl chloride flasks or tubes, which does not permit the ethyl chloride to flow out like a jet, when used for the purpose of the narcosis and for the local anaesthesia, but causes the same to extravasate in the form of equable drops.
Ethyl chloride has been used about years for the local anaesthesia. For such use it depends on the effect of the coldness, be cause the local anaesthesia effect of this depends upon freezing through the dermatogen. Heretofore, locks used for this purpose cause the discharge of the ethyl chloride through the capillary outlet of the tube in a long fine jet. The resulting radiate bouncing of the liquid on the place of the application of the jet produces a speedy 30 coldness of the skin and accomplishes the desired effect.
But for about ten years last past, ethyl chloride has been used in a large degree for the general narcosis, especially by short operative interventions and for such purposes the jet of ethyl chloride is quite unsuitable and it is desirable to provide an automatically operating lock, which causes the emanation of the liquid from the flask, tubes or other container by drops, and this I accomplish by providing an automatically operating lever lock for ethyl chloride containers, comprising a head arranged for fixture to the neck of a container and having an outlet for the container, an action lever pivotably mounted on the head and having a lock cap to close against the head and close the outlet when the action lever is in closed position and held in spaced relation to said head and opposite the outlet thereof when the said lever is in open position, as hereinafter described and claimed.
The new and useful automatically operative lever lock according to the present invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing which shows also the emanation of the ethyl chloride in drops out of the capillary outlet.
Fig. 1 shows the lock closed, Fig. 2 shows the lock'open and, Fig. 3 shows an ethyl chloride flask pro.- vided with my improved lock in action.
The lock head a, which is fixed upon the neck of the ethyl chloride flash or tube or other container is provided with a boring for the capillary outlet. The lock head a has a member 6 forming a support for the springing action lever 0 with the lock cap (I. The lever 0 is movable on pivot e and has a slit to permitthe passage of a springing pawl which is movable on the pivot g of the member I). The pawl f passes through the action lever c and the slit in this said lever permits pivoted movement of the pawl f which has an engaging tip it which is situated in the slit of the lever 0 when the latter is in its closing position (Fig. 1). The action lever c is provided with anindentation or notch 2'. In this indention the lip h of the pawl f snaps or engages when the lock is opened by a pressure upon the action lever e and the pawl thus moves to prevent return of the action lever in its locking position. When thus engaged the action lever is held fast by the pawl/ in the open position and with the lock cap arranged in spaced relation to the 1 outlet of the headso that as the extravasated ethyl chloride is caused to hit the lock cap which at such an angle as to be causedby said cap to fall down in drops from the latter. The capillary outlet may be readily closed by an easy moving of the pawl 7 through pressure thereupon to release the same from the action lever 0 and permit the return of the latter to closed position; as shown in Fig. 1.
What we claim as our invention is:
1. An automatically operating lever lock for ethyl chloride containers comprising a head arranged for fixture to the neck of a container and having a restricted outlet for the container, whereby the contents are ejected in a jet, an action lever pivotally mounted on the head and having a lock cap to close against the head and close the outlet when the action lever is in closed position and means coacting with said lever to cause the latter to hold said cap in spaced relation to said head and opposite the outlet thereof when the said lever is in open position and thereby cause the ethyl chloride jet from the container to strike in the cap and fall there from in drops.
2. An automatically operating lever lock for ethyl chloridecontainers, comprising a head arranged for fixture to the neck of a container and having a restricted outlet for the container, whereby the contents are ejected in a jet, an action lever pivotally mounted on the head and having a lock cap to close against the head and close the outlet when the action lever is in closed position and held in spaced relation to said head and opposite the outlet thereof when the said lever is in open position, and means to lock said lever in such open position and thereby cause the ethyl chloride jet from the container to strike in the cap and fall therefrom in drops.
3. An automatically operating lever lock for ethyl chloride containers, comprising a head arranged for-fixture to the neck of a container and having an outlet for the container, an action lever pivotally mounted on the head and having a lock cap to close against the head and close the outlet when the action lever is in closed position and held in spaced relation to said head and opposite the outlet thereof When the said lever is in open position, and means to lock said lever in such open position and thereby cause the ethyl chloride jet from the container to strike in the cap and tall therefrom in drops, said means comprising a pawl pivotally mounted. on the head and having an engaging lip near its free end, said action lever having a notch for engage ment by the lip of the pawl.
