Description

COLLAPSIBLE TUBE SPIGOT Filed June 9, 1931 INVENTOR.
Patented Apr. 5, 1932 UNITED STATES KENNETH E. IBEMIS, F GLENDALE, CALIFORNIA COLLAPSIBLE TUBE SPIGOT Application led June 9, 1931. Serial No. 543,051.
This invention is a collapsible tube spigot particularly adapted for use on collapsible y tubes used for tooth paste, shaving cream,
paints and similar pasty products. A The usual collapsible tube is providedwith a screw threaded cap, and the present invention is adapted to be used in place of the cap for dispensing the paste or cream and provides a convenient closure for such tubes.
The main object of the invention is to providea conveniently operated closure for collapsible paste and cream tubesv and which is lremovably attached thereto.
Another object of the invention is topprovide a device as outlined which will positively close the dispensing aperture, and which is conveniently operated by one hand.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device as outlined which is neat in ap earance and economically manufactured.
ther objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent as the following description is read on the drawings forming a part of this specification and in which similar reference characters are used to designate similar parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Fig. 1 is a sectional elevation through the invention showing the method of mounting 30 on a collapsible tube;
I; ig. 2is a side elevation of the invention; an
Fig. -3 is a front elevation thereof.
The invention consists of a cap portion 10 having a recess l1 adapted to fit over the top portion of a collapsible tube 12, the cap portion continuing into a neck 13 and a rider 14 extending outwardlytherefrom. The neck 13 has a central longitudinal bore 15, the lower end of which is counterbored and threaded as at 16 to coo erate with the threaded tip of the collapsi le tube.
The closure member consists of a yoked lever 17, pivoted at 18 through the neck 13, the other end having a bore 19 in which a ball l20 is urgedby a spring 21 for closing the aperture 15. A stop p1n 22 limits the movement of lever 17 to that shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 2. 4
The device is used-by first removing the usual cap from the tube and screwing the invention in place thereof. By drawing the lever 17 back as shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 2, the paste or cream may be expelled through the aperture 15 after which the 55 lever is moved back to its closed position at which point the ball 20 effectively seals the opening.
Having described an operative method of constructing and using the invention it will be understood that variations in construction and arrangement which are consistent with the appended claims may be resorted to without detracting from the spirit or scope of the invention or sacrificing any of its ad- 05 vantages.
1. In combination, a cap adapted to fit over the top of a collapsible tube, a neck extending therefrom, a threaded aperture in said cap and a bore extending therefrom, a lever pivoted to said neck andlhaving a recess and a spring urged ball in said recess for closing said bore.
2. In combination with a collapsible tube, a spigot threadedly secured to the neck of said tube and having a bore extending therethrough, a lever pivotally mounted on said spigot and having a recess adapted to -register with said bore and a spring urged ball su in said recess adapted to close said bore.
In testimony `whereof I have alixed my signature.
KENNETH E. VBEMIS.
