LOUIS LICHTENSTEIN, ,OF WILMINGTON, DELAWARE.
'TOILET-POWDER DISPENSER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 19,1918.
Application -le Apri112, 1918.' Serial No. 228,082!
c all whom t 'may concern:
Be it known that I, Louis LIoHrnNsrniN,
a citizen of the'United' States, residing at- Vilmington, in the county of Newk Castle,
State of Delaware, have invented a new and useful Toilet-Powder Dispenser, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists of a toilet powder dispenser provided with a novel discharge or distributer mechanism as will be hereinafter set forth, the features of the same being pointed out in the claims.
The invention is satisfactorily illustrated in the accompanying drawing, but the important instrumentalities thereof may be varied, and so it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific details shown and described, as long as they are within the spirit or scope of the claims.
Figure 1 represents a top or plan view of a toilet powder box embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 represents a vertical section thereof on line 2-2 Fig. l.
Fig. 3 represents a top or plan view of the stopper of the box.
Fig. 4 represents a section of a portion of the device in inverted condition.
Figs. 5 and 6 represent vertical sections of other embodiments of my invention.
Similar numerals of reference indicate cor-` responding parts in the gures. Referring to they drawings. l designates a box which may be of the form of a bottle and constructed of suitable` material, it being provided with the stopper 2 in which is the longitudinally' extending passage 3 for the discharge of the contents of the box therethrough7 said passage being preferably of conical form, the upper end of the stopper forming the seat 4 for the valve 5 which consists in the present case of a sliding plate slidable on the stopper to close and open said passage.
Rising from said plate and secured thereto is the plug 6 which comprises the handle of the valve for operating the same. The upper end of the stopper 2 which in the present case projects beyond the mouth of the box has connected with it the screw cap 7 which comprises the valve chamber of the device. In the top wall of said cap is the elongated slot 8 through which protrudes the plug or handle 6 so as to be accessible, it being adapted to play in opposite directions in said slot guiding said valve in its opening and closing motions, said slot when the valve is opened beingfadapted'to have the passage 3 communicate therewith so that the contents of the 2 box may viiow yfromv saidy passage into the cap and discharge from the latter through said slot, this being the case when the box is overturned as sho-wn in Fig. 4.
In order to hold the valve on its seat and in the position in which it may be placed there is interposed between the same and the washer 9 on the underside of the cap 7, the spring l0, the eect of which is evident.
It will be seen that the valve is closed when it is centered on the upper end of the passage 3, as shown in Fig. 2. Then it may be moved to the right or left to open the valve and consequently uncover said passage. The box may be overturned when the contents of the same flow out through the stopper and cap and so be dispensed as shown in Fig. 4, whereby said contents are serviceable, or the box may be operated as a sprinkler to cause the discharge of the powder or contents of the boX. c
The box may be righted and the valve closed, as again shown in Fig. 2, thus preventing air and dust from reaching the oontents of the box.
The slot 8 is preferably elongated so that either of its ends may constitute a discharge opening for the powder from the bottle, and when the plug 6 is at either end of the slot, the remainder of the latter provides for a rapid dispensing of a large volume of the powder as apparent on inspection of Fig. 4.
In Fig. 5, I show another form of a spring such as l1 in lieu of the coil spring 10 for `holding the valve on its seat.
In Fig. 6, the valve is held on its seat sufliciently by friction due to the pressure of the cap 7, thereon.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. In a powder-distributer of the character stated, a receptacle, a stopper therefor, the latter having therethrough a, discharge pas sage, a valve for said passage, and a cap over said stopper adapted to contain said valve, said cap having in its wall a slot which is adapted by the operation of said valve to be placed in and out of communication with said passage.
2. In a powder-distributer of the character stated, a receptacle, a stopper therefor, the latter having therethrough a discharge passage, a valve for said passage, a cap on said sag@ ber@through9 valve for aid passagea 'l s l@ Sea?, ih@ 5mn@ :seing smid stoppe?? Copies @fait means f'ol' holding said Valve 0n its seat, a :mp ove-1 said smpper, and a handle on said mve, Said cap having theen a, slot in which mi@ handle is eey tted and.
