Description

G. E. PIERCE.
Keys for Locks.
No 47 787 Patented Feb. 24,1874.,.
AM M0701 ITI/MMP/l/L Cal". K rasmrwlc moans.)
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES, E. rIEEoE, on NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT'IN KEYS FOR LOCKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 147,787, dated February 24, 1874; application filed November 14, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
slotted at both ends, for purposes hereinafter described. Fig. 7 represents a side and edge view of the key-handle. Fig. 8 represents a side and edge view of the key-bit.
J represents the barrel part of the key; B, the handle of the key, and E the key-bit. a is a piece of metal fitted into the inner end of the key-barrel to close the hole.
5, represents the handle end of the key opened; and D, the inner end view of the key with the bit opened. Handle B is pivoted to the outer end of key-barrel J at hole B. (See Fig. 4.)
2 A, on Fig.
Bit E is pivoted in a slot in the inner end of key-barrel J at hole V. (See Fig. 4..) F is a connecting-rod, slotted at both ends, and one end is pivoted to bit E at hole 0, and the other end is pivoted to handle B at hole 0 (See Fig. 5.
By taking hold of handle B and moving it around on curved line G, such movement causes bit E to move out of the slot at the inner end of barrel J, as shown in Fig. 5. By moving handle B back on aline with barrel J, the bit E will be closed, as shown in Fig. 4.
Having thus described my improved key, and the manner in which the same is operated, What I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the barrel J, handle B, bit E, and connecting-rod F, constructed and arranged so that by turning the handle around the bit will be thrown out, substantially. as described, and for the purposes set forth.
OHARLES'E. PIERCE.
