Description

NW, 13, 1923. mwsa C. L. BARTHOLOME EJECTOR FOR CIGARETTE OR CIGAR HOLDERS Original Filed May 6, 1922 Patented Nov. 13, 1923.
UETED STATES IEJECTOR FOR CIGARETTE OR CIGAR HOLDERS.
Application filed May 6, 1922, Serial No.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES L. BARTHO- LOME, a citizen of the United States, residing at Terre Haute, in the county of Vigo and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ejectors for Cigarette or Cigar Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a device for use in connection with a cigarette or cigar holder, to eject the cigarette or cigar from the holder, when desired.
' An important object of the invention is to provide a device of the above mentioned character which is effective and practical in operation, and will not puncture or injure the cigarette or cigar prior to the ejecting operation.
A further object of the invention is to 7 provide a device of the above mentioned character, which may be installed upon a cigarette or cigar holder, without materially altering the construction of the same.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a device embodying my invention, showing the same in use,
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, and,
Fig. 8 is a transverse sect-ion taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates a tubular holder, provided at its rear end with a mouth piece 6.
My invention resides more in the nature of an attachment to be applied to the tubular holder, and this comprises a preferably rectangular elongated frame 7, preferably integral. This frame embodies sides 8, which carry resilient arms 9, which are longitudinally curved. Thearms 9 are adapted to receive and hold the tubular holder 5, as shown.
The numeral 10 designates a spur or toothed ejector wheel, carried upon a shaft 11.
This shaft is slidably mounted in elon- 558,970. Renewed September 29, 1923.
A cigarette or cigar may now be inserted in the tubular holder, without liability of beingpunctured or torn. The rear end of the cigarette or cigar extends rearwardly past the slot 13, and hence this slot is covered and a draft is not impaired. When the cigarette or cigar is smoked down to a short stub, the ejector wheel 10 is first depressed, whereby its teeth enter the bore of the tubular holder 5, and become embodied in the material of the cigarette or cigar. The ejector wheel is now turned in the proper direction to eject the stub from the holder.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described, is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of my invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. An ejecting device for use with a tubu lar cigarette or cigar holder provided with a longitudinal slot, said device comprising a frame secured to the tubular holder in proximity to said slot, and a rotatable ejector wheel carried by the frame and adapted to extend through the slot and engage with the cigarette or cigar.
2. An ejecting device for use with a tubular cigarette or cigar holder provided with a longitudinal slot, said device comprising a frame having sides, said sides having transverse slots, means to secure the frame to the tubular holder, and an ejector wheel mounted within the frame and having a shaft operating within the slots in said sides, said ejector wheel being adapted to extend through the longitudinal slot in the tubular holder and engage with the cigarette or cigar.
3. An ejecting device for use with a tubular cigarette or cigar holder provided With a longitudinal slot, said ejecting device comprising a frame having sides provided With transverse slots, resilient arms carried by 5 said sides and adapted to receive the for ward end of the tubular holder, and a toothed ejector wheel having a shaft extending into the transverse slots, said ejector Wheel being adapted to pass through the slot in the tubular holder and engage with 10 the cigarette or cigar.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
CHARLES L. BARTHOLOME.
