STUB EXTRACTOR FOR CIGARETTE HOLDERS.

Beit known thatI, RAYMOND A. CRo-sBY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Holyoke, in the county of Phillips and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Stub Extractor for Cigarette Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The present invention relates to a stub extractor for cigarette holders, and aims to provide a novel and simple device of that kind which can be conveniently applied to a cigarette holder for conveniently and quickly extracting or removing the cigarette stub from the holder.

Another object of the invention is the provision of such a device which can be readily applied to various cigarette holders, without the necessity for cutting holes or otherwise mutilating the holders, and which will also be practical and efficient in use as well as ornate in appearance.

The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein Figure l is a perspective view of the device as applied to a cigarette holder, showing the extracting member or clasp removed from the holder.

Fig. 2 is a side elevation illustrating the position of the parts when starting a cigarette into the holder when using the extractor in the holder.

Fig. 3 is a View, partly in side elevation and partly in section, showing the cigarette and the extractor in place in the holder.

The device constitutes an attachment for a cigarette holder, and includes an extracting member or clasp 7 formed of thin sheet metal or other suitable material. member or clasp is of circular cross-section and of a size to fit snugly in the socket 8 of the cigarette holder or mouth-piece 9. The extracting member 7 is of tubular form with a split or division at the top, and the ends of said member are cut obliquely or on inclines, as shown, whereby the bottom portion 10 is of greatest length, and said member having the tapered fingers 11 extending upwardly toward one another. Said fingers 11 are resilient so as to embrace the stub end of the cigarette and to fit snugly in the socket 8.

As a means for conveniently pulling the extracting member from the holder and to prevent the loss of said member, a chain 12 or other flexible element is secured at one end to the outer end of the portion 10 of the extracting member, and the other end of the chain or flexible element is anchored to a band or sleeve 13. Said band is of a size to slip over the mouth end of the cigarette holder and to fit snugly on the holder between the ends thereof, thereby providing for the convenient attachment of the chain 12 to the holder. The band 13 may be of any suitable metal or material, and will provide an ornamental finish for the cigarette holder. The band can also be engraved, to provide a monogram thereon, or can be otherwise finished.

In using the device, the extracting member 10 is slid partly into the socket 8, as seen in Fig. 2, and the stub end of the cigarette is then inserted into the outer inclined end of the member 7, with the cigarette in an inclined position, as seen in Fig. 2. This enables the cigarette to be readily started into the member or clasp 7 and the cigarette is then swung down into alinement with the holder 9. The cigarette and member 7 are then slid into place in the socket 8, as seen in Fig. 8. The member or clasp 7 embracing the stub end of the cigarette and fitting snugly in the socket 8 will assist in holding the cigarette firmly in place in the holder. The stub can then be readily removed from the holder by pulling on the chain 12 so as to withdraw the extracting member or clasp 7 from the holder, the cigarette stub being extracted with said member. The inner or rear inclined end of the member 7 enables the stub to be conveniently pushed 0H out of the member 7 while the forward or outer inclined end of the memher 7 facilitates the starting of the cigarette into said member, as depicted in Fig. 2.

The device may also be constructed for use on cigar holders and mouth-pieces, so that the term cigarette is used broadly to include cigars.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1.
