This invention relates to garment accessory deviees, with particular reference to clamps, or holders for the points or meeting end portions .of shirt collars, the function of which holding device is to maintain said points or meeting ends of the collar in the proper neat and snug rela-' tion to the necktie at the front of the' shirt collar. i

Theinvention therefore comprises an improved I form of collar holding device having means for retaining engagement with the points or meeting ends of the collar,-as .well as a yielding or elastic connection'adapted to enable th device to'compensate for abnormal strains or pulls (incident to its wearing position) without releasingsaid engagement with the ends of the collar.

For accomplishing this purpose I provide prac tical and eflicient collar engaging elements for maintaining a reliable and detachable connection with the ends of the collar, and also an elastic or resilient element having its opposit ends connectedwith said collarengaging elements, and

enclosed by a suitable tubular sleeve or guard member i One important feature of the present invention is the improved form of assembly of the parts whereby th collar engaging or gripping elements V and their guard member for the connecting element are constructed to cooperate for not only providing limiting stops for the relative movepoints or meeting end portions of a shirtcollar provement over the collar and tie clasp device and beneath the tie at the front of the collar;

The present invention is the nature of an imillustrated in my Patent No. 2,195,468, dated April Referring now'to the accompanying drawing in .detail, the improved device is shown therein as comprising a pair of forked attachments or collar-gripping elements in the form of collar clips 5, each having a pair of fingers I and at least one ofsaid fingers of each pair having sufficient spring or resilient action for facilitating the slipping of the clip over the edgeof the shirt ment of the parts, but also for holding them against relative rotative movementand in addition, to provide a simple means of attaching said gripping elements to the elastic or resilient ele-' ment, and of such a character as to positively eliminate any possibility of those elements becoming disconnected.

The improved construction is furthermore of a simple and inexpensiv 'type, adapted for economical manufacture, and also of a nature appropriate for receiving a neat and. attractive finish, rendering it suitable for wearing purposes.

, With the foregoing general objects in view,-

the invention will now be described by reference to the accompanying drawing showing one specific form of construction which has been found suitable for the practical embodiment of the proposed improvements, after which those features and combinations which are deemed to be both novel and patentable will be particularly set forth and claimed.

In the drawing- Figure 1 is a front perspective view showing the improved collar holding device in appropriate wearing position, or in connected relation to the collar Ill and thereafter maintaining the clip in secure gripping engagement with said collar.

The collar clips or gripping elements 5 are connected to the opposite ends of a suitable elastic or yielding member, which may be of any desired type for this purpose, and which is herein illustrated as comprising a coil spring I of'appropriate length, the ends of which may be attached in any suitable manner to said clip elements. In

the present illustrated form of the improvedconstruction I prefer to loop the ends of said spring l4 over finger projections 16 which are formed integral with the inner ends of the shank or stem portions l8 of said elements 5, as clearly illustrated in Figure 4.

The said coil connecting spring M as well as 1 the shank or stem portions l8 of the clip elements 5' are enclosed in a tubular sleeve member 20 of appropriate length and which may conveniently be made of split construction rolled into cylindrical form, and also cut away along its split or seam line to form mating recesses 01 notches 22 which are so located as to cooperate to provide slots for accommodating the aforesaid finger projections l6. These slots are also designed to be of proper length to provide shoulders 24 at both ends of the slots for acting as stops to limit both the expanding and contracting movements of the spring It. In addition it is also obvious that after the ends of said spring H! are assembled in attached relation to said finger projections IS, the extension of said fingers out through the slots formed by said recesses 22 will effectually prevent any disengagement of the ends of the spring from the fingers ii of the clips 5.

The use of the improved device is in all respects the same as in the case of my prior patented collar and tie clasp, previously referred to, and as illustrated in Figure 1, showing the clips 5 attached in gripping relation to the end portions of the collar ID, with the sleeve or guard member 20 positioned underneath and behind the knotted portion l2 of the necktie. In this wearing position, the yielding character of the device accommodates all the pulling strains incident to its use, while at the same time maintaining a firm gripping engagement with the collar and thereby ensuring the holding of the end portions of the collar in their correct position in relation to the necktie.

It will of course be understood that the elements of my improved construction may be made from any appropriate material adapted for devices of this character and which may also be adapted for taking a neat and attractive finish, as is desirable for garment accessories and the like.

Therefore while I have set forth and described a practical and entirely satisfactory form of construction for embodying the stated features of my improvementr I wish to reserve the right to make such modifications as may fall within the 2. An elastic or yielding collar holder of the character described comprising, a pair of collar clips each having a shank or stem portion provided with collar gripping means and also formed with laterally extending finger projections, a yielding expansible element having terminals looping over the finger projections of said collar clips, and a guard sleeve enclosing said expansible element and the shank portions of said collar clips and also provided with slots slidingly accommodating the finger projections of said collar clips while preventing detachment of the terminals of said expansible element from said finger projections of the collar clips.

An elastic or yielding collar holder of the character described comprising, a pair of collar clips each having a shank or stem portion provided with collar gripping means and also formed with laterally extending finger projections, a coil expansion spring connecting said clips and formed with terminal loops for fitting over the finger projections of said collar clips, and a guard sleeve enclosing said expansion spring and the shank portions of said collar clips and also being formed with slots slidingly accommodating the finger projections of said clips while preventing detachment of said terminal loops from said finger projections.

An elastic or yielding collar holder of the character described comprising, a pair of collar clips each having a shank or stem portion provided with collar gripping means and also formed with laterally extending finger projections, a yielding expansible element having terminals looping over said finger projections of the collar clips, and a split guard sleeve enclosing said expansible element and having mating notches or recesses along its split line adapted to cooperate to provide slots slidingly accommodating said finger projections of the collar clips and also preventing detachment of-said terminals of the expansible element from said finger projections.
