CLASP. I APPLICATION FILED AUG-4.19]?- D60 Patented Dem 11,1917.

Specification of Letters 2atent.
Patented Dec. ill, that.
Application f led August a, 1917. Serial Ito. 184:3?6.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RALPH C. Icons, 9.-
, citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Guyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain .new and useful Improvements in Clasps, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements-in clasps, and more particularly to that class or type known as garment clasps, the
present embodiment of the invention being particularly designed and adapted for use in connection with garters in the attachment and support of hosiery. The primary object of the invention is to provide a generally improved device of this class which will be exceedingly simple in construction, cheap of manufacture, and efficient in use.
' A further object of the invention is the provision of an improved article engaging tang or hook particularly adapted .to enter an improved tang or till between the meshes of the knit fabric to he supported, as a stocking, or the like, and embodying improved means for preventing the accidental disengagement of the garment clasp when inserted and attached. A still further object is the provision of hook having an en larged friction bearing body portion spaced from and extending in a common plane at one side of the clasp. plate and having an angular or upturned tip portion extending toward the clasp plate so as 'to prevent any scratching or possible injury to the flesh of the wearer while in use.
With the above mentioned and other ends in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement, andconibination of parts, hereinafter described, illustrated in one of its embodiments in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring to the drawings, forming apart of this specification, Figure 1, shows the improved clasp as applied to and in use in connection with a special form of garter.
Fig. 2, a view of the inner sides of the garter and clasps, detached.
Fig. 3, an edge view of the same.
Fig. l, a perspective view of one of the clasps, detached.
Fig. 5, an enlarged longitudinal. sectional view of one of the article engaging tangs and the adjacent portion of the clasp plate.
Similar numerals of reference dvsignate like parts throughout all the figures of the drawings. a
The improved clasp comprises a suitable clasp plate or shield 1, of any suitable and convenient form, and may be attached to an elastic web member 2, in any suitable and convenient manner, as for example,- by means of clamping and attaching wings l,
The clamp plate 1, is provided with a plurality of article engaging tangs each comprising an enlarged friction bearing portion 1 spaced from and extending in a common plane at one side of the clasp, plate as shown most clearly in Figs. 3, and 5, of the drawings, and as a means of more as fectually preventing the accidental displacement or. detachmentof the article engaging tangs while in use, the friction bearing body. portion 1*, is formed to provide enlarged anchor portions 1, at the sides, said rounded. shoulder or anchor portions 1, terminating at their rear in a reduced or neck portion 1.
The body portion 1", terminates at its front in a tapered pointed portion 1", and as a means of preventing the latter from coming into direct contact with the skin of the wearer when in use the tip of the tapered body 1", is upturned and extends at an angle from the plane of the body portion 1', and toward the clasp plate 1, as shown most clearly in Figs. 3, and 5, oi? the drawings. The point or tip portions 1", are preferably of as to more edectively enter between the meshes of the fabric of the article to be suprounded or dull form so ported and the meshes o" the article are I adapted to spread out or the anchor or shoulder portions of 1, and after passing the latter, to again become contracted about the neck portions 1, so that the rounded or enlarged portions 1, will prevent the accidental displacement of the tangs and at the same time permit of the manual disengage. ment of the latter from the fabric when desired in detachment From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the operation and advantages of invention will be readily understood.
Having thus described one of the embodi' ments oi my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters'Patent, is,---
1. A garment clasp, comprising a plate member provided with article tangs each comprising a pointed portion at one side and each having oppositely loterminating in enlarged laterally extending 'catcd enlarged portions terminating in neck rounded anchor portions. and pointed portions, said pointed portion 15 2. A clasp, comprising a clasp plate probeing bent inwardly at an angle to the plane 5 vided with struck out article engaging tangs of the body of the hook and extending toliaving enlarged frictions bearing body por- Ward said clasp plate. tions spaced from and extending in a com- In testimony whereof I have affixed 1ny- 'mon plane at one side thereof and having signature in the presence of two witnesses. upturned tips extending toward said clasp v RALPH C.
