UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
hIlGHAEL J. A. KEANE, OF NEXV YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN BRUSH AND MOP HOLDERS.
Specification forming part otLetters Patent No. 147,331, dated February 10, 1874; application filed October 18, 1873.
To all 'uhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MIGIIAEL J. A. KEANE, of the city and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in. Brush and Mop Holders, of which the t'ollmving is a correct description 1 make use of a cylinder at the end of the handle, a nut and wire bow, as has heretofore heenemployed but upon the cross-bar ot' the brush-holding; hook is a flange, projecting toward the wire bow. The object of this is two- 1'oldto strengthen the hook, and to form an edge against which the material of the mop clamped when used as a mop holder.
In the drawing, Figure l is a section longitudinally of the handle, and Fig. 2 is an end view of the holder.
The screw-socket- (l is firmly secured to the end of the handle I). The end of this socket is closed, and forms a seat for the eye of the hook c, the parts being firmly secured by the rivet d,- but the hook can be revolved around this rivet, or the reverse. Around the screw cylindrical socket a is the nut e, that has eyes at opposite sides receiving; the ends of the wire bowf, and said bow passes through slots in the arms g of the hook, so that, by revolving either the handle or the hook, bow and nut, the bow is moved toward or from the hook, and serves to clamp the back of a brushtor floors or windows that may be placed between the hook and bow. At the eye of the hook, and along the arms g, a flange, I, is made for the purpose of strengthening the eye and the arms, and for forming a bearing against which the cloth or wicking, torming the mop, are pressed by the clamping-bow.
By the aforesaid construction the mop and brush holder are rendered more durable, and when used for a mop-holder the fibrous mate rial is more securely held than heretofore.
I claim as my inventi0n-- The flange I, upon the arms 9 and eyeot' the hook, for strengthening the same and clamp in g the mop, in combination with the wire bow f and nut c, as set forth.
Signed by me this 15th day of October, A. l). 1873.
M. J. A. KEANE.
