Hi-w. SLAUSON GRAPHIC DISPLAY CHART Filed April 26, 1923 607/174 M SKI/5447 INVENTOR.
ATTORNEY,
Patented @ct. 16, 1923.
vST'llES PATENT OFFICE.
HAROLD W. SLAUSON, 0F EARTSDALE, NEXV YORK, ASSIGNOR TO KELLY- SPRING- FIELD TIRE COMPANY, 015 NEVT YORK, N. Y., A. CORPORATION OF NEW JERSEY.
enernrc DISPLAY CHART.
Application filed April 26, 1923. Serial No. 634,917.
To all 20 ham it may concern:
Be it known that I, HAROLD W. SLAUSON,
a citizen of the United States, residing at plex folder of card board or the like; one
portion representing the normal cross-sectional contour of the mass it simulates and having a foldable port-ion, representing the loss in one direction when the mass it represents is distorted; the other portion representing the true contour of the mass it represents when deformed, and is so disposed with respect to the first named portion that the distorted area shall be visible when the folder is closed, leaf-to-leaf.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure l, illustrates the B leaf of the folder which represents the actual contour of the mass when distorted. The A leaf being represented in broken lines, and the disposition of displaced material by mass shading. Fig. 2, is a cross section through the folder, on the line IIII, illustrating the foldable features.
Figure 3; illustrates the A leaf of the folder which represents the original contour. The broken lines represent the folded position of the B leaf whereby the relation of original and distorted contours may be visualized.
In particularly describing the specific application of my device to a known object, a typical cross section through a wellknown commercial type of resilient truck tire composed of vulcanized rubber has been selected, as a convenient example.
The aspects of the article, as it appears in cross section (normal and distorted) is reproduced in the form of prints upon the respective leaves A and B of the folder;
it being noted that the metallic rim on which the tire is usually mounted is indicated as 10. The true cross sectional contours of the mass, normal, and in distorted relation as ascertained by actual test, are indicated respectively on the leaves A and B. In order that diminution of the height of the mass from its normal, as shown by leaf A, may be visualized when the leaves are folded together a portion 11 on A has been arranged to fold up flush pitih the lower edge of the distorted or B By referring particularly to Fig. 3, it will be noted that the A leaf, illustrates the true normal cross section of the article it represents and that the internal void is shown also in an undisturbed state. In Fig. 1, the leaf B illustrates the distorted cross sections of the same article, wherein the displaced material is clearly shown in mass. shading, and particularly the restricted profile of the internal void-is emphasized.
Having thus described my preferred form of folder as applied, by way of illustration, to one specific article what I claim as new therein and desire to protect by Letters Patcut is:
1. A foldable graphic chart of the character described, comprising, duplex leaves, permanently hinged, one such leaf showing the article it simulates in a normal physical state, and another leaf showing a different physical state when the simulated article is in a deformed condition.
2. A foldable graphic chart of the character described, comprising, duplex leaves, permanently hinged, one such leaf showing the articlcit simulates in a normal physical state, and another leafshowing a different physical state when the simulated article is in a deformed condition, said leaves being so arranged that the normal and distorted states of the identical article may be simultaneously visualized from a View in one direction.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
